I dont think they are afraid, they are just realistic. Most will have had long term commited relationships and experienced being single so they can compare the two quite easily.
Commitment PRO;
Having someone to share life with.
Having someone to go dancing with
Having someone to surprise you
Having someone to make love to you
Sharing expenses
Commitment CONs
Having to cook 7 days a week
Being kept awake by someone snoring
Washing and ironing for 2
Cleaning for 2
Shopping for 2
Compromising on what you want to watch on TV
Compromising on holiday destinations
having to explain where you are going
Having to explain why you were out until 3am
Hardly ever being alone
Should I go on?

I think your all wrong. A woman over a certain age has already been married , has already done that bit. And doesn't want another man to look after , and clean up after . And cook for. Shall I go on? Why have all that trouble when you have the house all to yourself now and can enjoy peace and quiet. You can get a boyfriend and have sex whenever you want . So unless shes in need of money she probably won't ever get married again.

no i do not think they are afraid of commitment - they are just of an age when they know what they want and when they want it!
I am sure there are some that have suffered sand are unable to trust again but think most have just entered a new era that has empowered them!

yeah your right in a way...im not over fifty but i have battlescars nd yes they make you less inclined to be bothered with that commitment thing and my grandmother has a boyfriend who adores her(she has been widowed twice) and who asks her to marry him every day even tho she is 80 and she says she will never get married again as she wants to keep her independence now...she can send him home if she gets pissed off with him,lol...good for her

My guess is that they like the free and single life and don't want to be tied down - vestil virgin mentality (except in this case it starts at 50).
Why stick with one flavour when you can have fun trying many?
