Surely - everything has an opposite, right? But I can't think of one for the word sideways.

This is an interesting one and you could argue that the opposite of sideways is also sideways (i.e. the opposite side). In terms of the word rather than the specific direction though you could argue forwards was the opposite - i.e. a forewards look rather than a sideways look.

I do not know if there is or what is the opposite of sideways, but I know not everything has an opposite. Some words are just neutral, and do not have an opposite.

Wayside? lol

That's a good Q. What about length-wise (ways)? Maybe....? Or if sideways means horizontal, then it'd be vertical....but not if it was opposite. I'm stumped.

there isn't a opposite to sideways as in word..
Unless you describe it as left side or right side ..this way
you can distinguish which one of the sides you are referring to..oppersit to left sideways will be right sideways

Sideways...that would be either vertically, or forward/backward, depending on whether you're talking about placement or movement.

Depends whether you mean going to the right or the left.

The opposite of *sideways* is *LENGTHWAYS*
Hope that helps

It's definitely vertical (which by the way is the proper diction for "lengthways")

Either forwards or backwards
