Humility is defined as: The state or quality of being humble.

Humble is defined as: Conscious of one's failings; Unpretentious; Lowly; Deferential or servile; To cause to become humble. humiliate; To lower in status.

Humility may be OK for nuns and monks who have little contact with the outside world but other than that it is almost certainly counter productive.

Therefore true humility would take away the power of reasoned thought and reactions. The person would be insular and unable to offer much to others.

Humility is a somewhat over rated word used mainly by the religious. For example a man could not be truly humble and go out and preach, even to the converted. Could a truly humble person seeing someone attacked leap to their defence? Highly unlikely.

So I would suggest that a degree of humility may be a good thing but true humility is probably bad.

I am not humble, I enjoy helping people, discussing a wide range of topics, Challenging wrong doers, praising those that do well. I could do none of that if I was humble!!!!

For me, it's the realization that I'm not always right. I'm sure we've all had times when we were quite certain of something, and later found out that our belief was incorrect anyway. If you remember those experiences and keep them in mind, you gain a healthy dose of humility.

The topic reminds me of the old joke: "I used to be conceited, but now I'm perfect". If you claim to have the core essence of humility, doesn't that indicate that you really don't?

The essence of humility is this: All is impermanent and without Self. Nothing special.

But, to answer your question: No, I do not think I have it. I take way too much pride in my intellect.

Namaste.

Not listening to your ego is humility. Humility is the state of being humble. A humble person is generally thought to be unpretentious and modest: someone who does not think that he or she is better or more important than others.

The core of humility is gratitude. When you're greatful and content with all you have been given, all that you have and all that you are, you wil be the embodiment of humility, and happiness will be its glorious side effect.

Someone asked this of me a few years ago. It took some thought before I recognized the only answer could be the submission to the will of GOD. Being human and not perfect, I find total submission impossible and not even expected from GOD himself. That is why HE is certainly a truly loving and forgiving GOD in my world and I have total faith in HIS exsistence.

Submission to the will of God. I am not without fault in this area, and when I CHOOSE not to submit to God's will, then he chastens me.
