I'd love to hear explainations or interpretations of 1 Corinthians 11:10, "For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head."

What is the sign of authority? And "because of the angels"? What does this mean?

You can first read about this in Gen.24:63-65.It was the custom at that time for a woman to cover her head to show she was in subjection to her husband and that she was married.Today we have rings to show this.If you were a harlot at this time you cut your hair and left your head uncovered . It was a way of advertisement for them.So to separate the two thus came about. As christian women today Christ is their covering and the world should be able to see it just like the vail Rebekah covered herself with by being in submission to her husband. And just a reminder husbands .Don't let it go to your head . Your to love your wife as Christ loved the church and gave His life for it. As for the Angels you can read about them in Psalms 91:11-12 and 2 Peter 2:11.God has Angels that watch over those that are His and probably those who are not yet.I especially like what it says in Peter .Although they have the power to destroy us yet they don't even bring a railing accusation. These be His angels.Oh the depth of our Lord love and mercy.Thank You my God , Praise His Holy Name Amen.

The King James version reads: "For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels." It's talking about long hair being appropriate for women, and a sign of power and glory.

1 Cor 11:7-12. Pretty much explains itself. Because man is the image of God he should not cover his head while in church, but the woman is the image of man and should have her head covered to show respect unto God. Woman was created for man not man for the woman. In the reference to angels see Ecc 5:6.

The chain of authority is set up here.

The Jews pray to God with their heads covered as a symbol of their unworthiness to approach Him. Since Jesus opened the door for us to approach God freely, it would nullify His work if a Christian man covered his head for prayer.

The prostitutes in Corinth went about unveiled. A wife who didn't wear her veil dishonored her husband, since people would think she was

The woman was made from part of the man (Genesis 2:21-23).

This rule applied only to the women in Corinth because of the prostitutes in that city. The other churches didn't have any customs concerning veils.

Some of the people were eating and drinking greedily at the agape feasts, leaving very little for the others.

"Unworthily" also means "in an unworthy manner."

Those asleep were dead. Paul was either saying that the Christians were sick and dying because they had celebrated the Lord's Supper Improperly, or because they hadn't appropriated the healing that Christ had for them.

....this is the same as why women were told to not be teachers.. For in that day and that part of the world, women teachers and leaders would have caused such an uproar, the good news message (victory over the grave) would have gotten buried. Covering of the head was in the culture of that day.. That's why it takes the intelligence of the Holy Ghost working with us to understand the bible, as there is always a balancing.. between poles.. Notice how, not much later, it was common for women to stand out in the early church as leaders and examples (and Rev. 12:1); and also take note of how remarkable Jesus's attitude and treatment of women is, who not only taught them, but associated with them and revealed himself as resurrected to them first, before any men, thus entrusting such important news to them, in a day when men would not allow women to be witnesses! This reflects the Father's highlighting women, in that Gabriel's first announcement was to a woman, and how she and her aunt were used by the Holy Spirit to speak words for God.. and also in that Christ, "savior of the world" was "born of woman".. And she is alongside Adam, not beneath him.. And all of life proceeds and revolves around 'family' and women are so often right in the center of it all.. To say nothing of all the praying, noble and self sacrificing women in the world, which is very much "in the image of God"..
P.S - "because of the angels" - the greek it was written in, says "through the angels" - It's the Spirit of God as a covering and shield.

This refers to submission to authority. What Paul is saying here is that women should submit themselves to the authority of God as do the angels. Holy angels know to do nothing else but submit to God. If you read the previous verse, you will see that Paul states that woman was created for man and not visa versa. Likewise, mankind was created for God; therefore we should submit to his authority.

The meaning is very deep!

As in the days of Noah so shell be the last days.
The fallen of heaven will find woman beautiful to have,
If a woman has not the seal of God, which is the authority over the fallen, they will go with them!

convinced, women persons (and adult men) might want to continuously gown and behave modestly, it is what Paul is prescribing. contained in the Western subculture of in the present day this does no longer strictly propose donning a veil. we are lower than grace, no longer legalism. 2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and the position the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

Paul, humanly, was influenced by the customs of the time. He had a very interesting opinion of women and man's relationship with woman. Paul thought that a woman should hide her beauty from man so as not to tempt his sexual passions. He also is known for saying that it is better for a man not to marry unless he cannot control himself--then he should marry to protect himself from sinning.

A lot of what he instructs his new converts is based on the fact that Paul thought that Christ was going to come again in his (and their) lifetime. His main goal was to keep them from sinning.
