faith is nice but your deeds are what matters. Give me a righteous Atheist any day over a wicked believer.

Faith without works might as well be dead because it is impotent. If one thinks of the passage in the bible(Mathew 25:35-36,40) where Jesus states, "For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me. ...I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!" What exhortation could be more clear and imperative?! Faith without work accomplishes nothing. We are here to act with kindness and care for each other.
If my enlightenment is for myself alone, then it is incomplete and imperfect. Perfect enlightenment is for the sake of all beings and from that core of compassion, we act for the good and well-being of all. Even if only for one month each year, we could benefit the world so much by volunteering to help others. Our time is precious, so many of us prefer to donate money. But money only buys things. Give what is most precious, time and energy, towards helping. It is the interaction between those who need help and those who help that makes the biggest difference.
If you're reading this, you can probably do something to help the people of New Orleans and the surrounding Gulf Coast area. If you only have a few spare weeks now and again, go there and be part of the solution. At the very least, go there, spend a lot of money in the Quarter, and celebrate the spirit of "Lassiez Les Bon Temp Roulet!" Do something.
Namaste.

Yes, James said that faith without works is dead, and it makes sense. I have a strong faith, but I really believe that it takes works to show the love of Christ to others. I think that was James' point... not that works will save us. Faith saves us, but works are important, to live as a follower of Christ. ANd our works should be done out of love for God and for others, not to look like good people. We need humility as well in all that we do.

It very much alive and practiced by most christians, however, thier misguided belief that good works gets you into heven is a big myth and will not happen unless they accept the lord as thier
personal savior and follow his rules, one of which is not worshiping him on the false sabbeth of sunday. The true sabbeth is saturday.
