No birth control is fool-proof. Condoms can break or have very small invisible tears in them that sperm can leak through. Spermicides kill most but not ALL. And you always hear of people on birth control pills getting pregnant, although most of these are due to missing a dose. So unless you are prepared to deal with an accidental pregnancy, the only fool-proof way is abstinence. Sorry, don't mean to sound like a fuddy-duddy :)

Every protection has a level of efficacy. Even pills, that can be 99% safe when used according instructions, has 1% failure chance. Typical use bring efficiency to 95-97% effective (that's when people don't take always at the right time, or may even miss a day, etc). I've heard of people who was in the 1%. And you can't really sue the company neither, it's in the product description. Condoms can also break. Even if you don't see it broke, it could have a little hole and you didn't notice. I believe efficiency for condom with typical use is about 90%. You can find the level efficiency of the specific protection you are using (or considering) in the product packaging and in family planning clinics and websites. As mentioned the only 100% safe method is abstinence.

Condoms are not 100% accurate. They tell you that on the box although neither is birth control I am 25 weeks pregnant with that proof. The thing is that when a guy ejaculates there are millions of little sperms that are released and just one is all it takes to get you pregnant. Most condoms are latex, latex contains tiny little holes ( that why if you fill it with air a couple days later it is much smaller and has lost air with you actually letting the air out.) Therefore there is a slim chance I would say 15% max that the condom won't work. The really sucky thing about it is the only way to not get pregnant is to not have sex ( No fun!!) Hope this helps.

Yes. I guess I would ask what kind of protection you used. Usually people say protection and they means that they used a condom. If you want to know about other methods just ask.
As far as male birth control goes, male condoms are it (although a male birth control pill is in the works). However, they have been around a long time and are probably one of the oldest forms of birth control still in existence today. In fact, illustrations of condoms dating back 3000 years have been found in Egypt. Over the years, condoms have been made out of everything from linen to animal intestines and even tortoise shells (ouch!). In the 1840s, though, vulcanized rubber condoms began to be produced and it wasn’t long before condoms took on the moniker "rubbers".
On average, condoms are effective at preventing pregnancy 85% of the time every year. If condoms are used perfectly, that is, properly and consistently every time, only two out of 100 women will become pregnant per year. However, with typical use, 15 out of 100 women will become pregnant each year. Additionally, it is possible for condoms to break during sex. Lubricants that are oil-based (i.e. Vaseline, massage oil and baby oil) are not suitable for use with condoms since they can weaken the latex as can yeast infection medications. To keep your condoms in top form, store them in a cool, dry place.

Nothing is 100% effective. Condoms are only like 96% and BC pills and the equivilent are like 98%. So, there is a small chance that you could get pregnant. It is very unlikely unless for instance you forgot a pill one day or the condom broke or he got some "precum" inside of you or the condom slipped off. If i were you i would always double up on protection. Like always use 2 types. Theer are many. Vaginal Foam, Vaginal Film, the Pill (i use the nuva ring, you insert and leave in till it is time for your period, no forgetting doses there) and condoms. Since there is no 100% method, always use 2. This lessens your chances of having a booboo. :o)

Well, nothing is 100% in terms of prevention. That doesn't mean you shouldn't use protection, of course. But if you are going to have sex, be sure you are engaging in at least 2 types of protection. For instance, if you are on the pill, your bf should also be using a condom. The chances go WAY WAY down if you double up like this. Even that isn't 100%, though, so you should keep that in mind.

Yes the pill can sometimes be uneffective, and the condom can slip off. Luckily I didn't get pregnant from a condom slipping off my husband. Nothing is 100%.

Let me just say "the only protection against getting pregnant that is 100%"is abstinence! There is no method of BC that is 100% and the ones that rank in the 95%'s to ((%'s are on that effective when used correctly.

What melissa said. Nothing is 100% effective except to not do it. Condoms can break or slip. One missed day of the pill can disrupt the cycle. Even the shot is not 100% effective.
