It takes 5 years of being a resident alien to be eligible to apply for naturalization. Illegal immigrants aren't here legally so they are not eligible to even apply for resident alien status unless other factors, such as marrying a legal resident or citizen occur.
Many illegal imigrant that come here don't plan on living here forever, they plan on maybe 5 years of working and then returnign home to buy a house and start a life. But people get addicted to the higher standard of living and access to everything that makes the US great. Most things (other than housing and food) are cheaper in the US than the countries the illegals come from.

Well if the politicians have their way we wont have to worry about that.If they get whole sale blanket amnesty ,they will be rewarded for at least 5 or more years as an illegal in this country. Its simply ludicrous to me to even entertain the idea of doing that.it makes no sense .Why ? Only for a few votes they are ready and willing to sell out this country by pandering to big business and to certain ethnic illegals. How do you think this country managed as well as it did for many years
without this influx of illegal immigrants? And with out giving away American citizenship's to criminals. It is unfathomable to me to see any logic or
reasoning in that scenario. My vote will be giving to the politician that has views similar to mine.I will not squander my vote on the Democrats (even tho I am one) What they are pushing is just wrong for this country.I am liberal but damn it I don't want to see this country become another Mexico. If you love Mexico so much then stay there and fix your own country.America will never be Mexico no matter how hard you may try to make it .Come to the USA legally or don't come at all.No amnesty.

You obviously have not had to go through an immigration process. If you think that all you need to do is going to an immigration office and requesting citizenship you are being naive. Becoming an American citizen is a very difficult process with requirements that not all aliens (legal or illegal) can fulfill and it requires of the help of an attorney making it also expensive. It takes 5 years to be a legal citizen if there is no backlog on cases, in reality it takes much longer.

if they are here illegally, they do not have a chance of getting citizenship (unless Bush changes things).... you are not entitles to citizenhip if you come here illegally, only if you come here legally, and then stay here illegally....so only those who are here illegally, but came here illegally have a chance....unless they go home and re-enter the USA legally.....
but then i agree there are some people (a small %) who can apply and they do not apply for citizenship or residency, and i have heard some people say they rather remain citizens of their own country, pretty much they are just milking the USA, (and I don't agree if it about poverty etc,b/c if u really wanted to you would go for it like the other legal immigrants who are poor and apply)....
But if our government has their way.... all those who worked hard to come here legally and worked hard to become citizens, worked for nothing.... soon, citizenship will be given to anyone who feels like crossing the southern border

Most illegal immigrants never had any chance of becoming legal, even before they came. That is because if you are poor and have no family who are citizens or residents of the US, you are out of luck. Once you come here illegally, there is virtually no way to become a legalized citizen.

FIRST you have to have legal residency. If someone crossed the boarder without papers, ILLEGALLY then they CAN NOT apply for citizenship.
It has nothing to do with not caring or not wanting to be here legally.

That's it they (illegal alien invaders) have no desire to become citizens of the USA. Just to Rape the USA for all they can. Why bother just use someone else's SS# send cash back to mother country to help others sneak over and invade the USA in the dark of night. A true culture of crime from the first crime of invading the USA, Identity theft, tax fraud, tax evasion, Welfare fraud... On and ON and ON. Then they can protest OUR LAWS in OUR COUNTRY. Write, call , or e-mail your government reps to Deport ASAP and Fine and Jail Employers. Also Build a Wall Well first the WALL then deport ASAP. Also no more Anchor baby BS. Read 14th amendment see it is talking about LEGAL not Illegal Alien Invader in the USA

Because you do not qualify if you dont have alot of money or a sponser....and if you are here in the US you would have to return to your country for at least 5 mos before they would give you an approval or denial. If you are not trying to qualify by marrying someone...you can only come as a tourist or a student. How many 50 year old students do you think they let in each year? Otherwise you can come legally as a worker, but have to work for the companies that accept seasonal workers and for alot of the year you are going to return to your country.

Illegal immigrants will always be illegal. They came illegally and do not know how to be legal. They have worked without taxes and they will keep doing it

Because it's not so easy to have your legal residency first. Do you think if they could come legally would be crossing the border the way they do? They are not that stupid!
