NEARLY 30,000 pensioners in Edinburgh have failed to apply for a new bus pass that allows free travel across Scotland.
The Scottish Executive-run scheme begins next month Mon 6 Mar 2006 and OAPs and disabled passengers will need a new entitlement card to ensure a free ride on any bus route across the country

Yes, at certain times and only with a bus/travel pass. Some of them can even use train services free.

It's criminal isn't it? - Surely this should be a means tested benefit. Most pensioners these days drive anyway, so why are they given free bus travel as well as their pension?

No i think it's only certain areas of Scotland, but soon it will be the whole of Scotland - not sure about the UK.
