I'm thinking about possibly sponsoring a couple, but I need to understand the responsibilities this would entail, including legal issues. I've read the government website, but its not much help. Could someone who knows the ins and outs of this please respond and tell me if this is a good idea or not. Is there another way to get a south american or latin american to work with me without having to sponsor them? As you can tell, I'm a novice at this.

I'd like to give a family a start - and no I don't have enough money to pay wages that an american family would expect. But I can provide housing and board, and a better standard than they had in their homeland. I just don't know how to go about. Any REAL suggestions - no smartass please.?

We live in RURAL Missouri, and no, there are no locals who are willing - I've tried. There's nobody standing around at the Home Depot (which by the way is 2 hours away).

I think that is a great idea. Wish I knew for sure. You might try contacting Catholic Charities.

They have programs to help immigrants adjust - I do know that.

As long as the couple or family is a legal family, no problem. However, why not advertise locally for a couple or family already American who may be looking for the opportunity? The employment rate can't be that good in Missouri where there is no one looking for that kind of opportunity. With the right incentives, I'm sure you'll find someone

Go into the big city.

Go to a Home Depot parking lot.

Pick someone and invite their whole family to come along (but be aware, that could be 20 people, including 16 children under the age of 12).

I don't know to much about this, but why not bring them here on a work visa? Or why not just hire an American? That way you can feel like you are helping your country.

Why an immigrant family? What about a family displaced by Katrina or other natural disasters in this country.

There are plenty of people in this country.

Pay a decent wage and you will find good help.
