For some things, yes... although the bible has nothing to do with it. But 'death' is way to harsh-sounding. We should call it something else... like 'retroactive birth-control'.
Think about it this way... if someone does something ablsolutely horrible, and worthy of the death penalty, it stands to reason that the perpetrator's mother would wish that he had never been born. That being the case, the fact of the person's birth would be reversed per judicial decree. Ideally, the sentence would be carried out by administering a pill of some sort to the perpetrator's mother... but until techcnology catches up with that idea, we simply must be resigned to the fact that we can only accomplish this through much cruder methods... stoning... electrocution... hanging... lethal injection... firing squad... drawing and quartering... poking with sharp sticks... nibbled to death by ducks.
There needs to be a couple other changes made to the system, though, before this could really be effective. First, the sentence needs to be carried out immediately... I mean like the judge renders his verdict, and they march the defendent out the back door of the court house, and the do it... right then and there. Second, the standard for conviction in a case carrying the potential sentence of retroactive birth control needs to be changed from 'beyond REASONABLE doubt' to 'beyond ANY doubt.'
(For those who have trouble with discernment... this answer is half 'tongue-in-cheek', half 'serious'. You can draw the lines where you will.)

Yes.
It is true that punishment is suppose to teach a lesson but what about those who do not learn? The repeat offenders who get out of jail and rape or murder within months of their release. They will never learn. I know I don't want my tax dollars to support them as they live the rest of their lives behind bars. Better to kill them and maybe send a message to others who might think of doing the same thing.

If your saying as a punishment (ie capital punishment) then I dont think it should ever be used. There are many cases of mis-carriges of justice where innocent person/persons have been convicted of a crime they didnt commit. I
f they are imprisoned - they can be set free and a suitable apology handed out.
If you have put them to death - it's too late!
Therefore I dont think any civilised society can justify it

Our kingdom is not of this world . Yet God has set up kingdoms or allowed kingdoms to be as they are for His Divine purpose.Pilot told Jesus that he had the power to put Him to death.Jesus responded and said you would have no power except it be given to you by my Father. He also told Pilot that His kingdom was not of this world and if we be His neither is this our kingdom. As a christian I could never put anyone to death.Thats my conviction.

Personally I'm against it. For those who believe it's proper punishment for extreme crimes and an effective deterrent, I would think the firing squad would make a much stronger statement.

Yes. Capital punishment is a valid form of punishment for heinous crimes. And it is gauranteed to prevent repeat commissions of the crime by that individual. 100%.
