My mother is undergoing testing for Lupus.
She is very tired and has many other aliments that are causing her difficulty with her job. We are unsure of how to try to get disability for her and the doctors aren't much help. I know it is very complicated and I do not want to jeopardize her claim. Any info would be very helpful....Thank you.

You can apply for Social Security Benefits while receiving short term disability at work. Call the Social Security Administration for information on applying for benefits. It may be harder to get benefits without a definite diagnosis, I know, I have fibromyalgia(also an autoimmune disorder) and was denied twice (which is not uncommon) then I found an attorney who would represent me on commission (his money came from my back pay). Be sure your attorney is experienced with Social Security claims.

I also want to encourage your mother not to give p. If one Dr. doesn't find a diagnosis, find another Dr. Many autoimmune disorders are difficult to diagnose, and many Dr.s give up and tell us we need to snap out of it or something like that, but there are still some good Dr.s whowiill work till they find the problem.

If the company offers Short Term Disability, you would collect that first. Once that runs out, then its Long Term Disability at the company. The company pays you until she's 65, then she goes on Social Security.

Have her contact the company and find out about her Short Term Disability.

fill out everything and start her now.
they will first Deni you and then you refill out everything again, and just keep her going till they give her the ssi
and not a short term anything.
and if they don't put her on ssi then go to a ssi lawyer and get help from them.
i did and got my ssi with in a week.
