After the 9/11, 2001 when the World Trade Centre was attacked and collasped with 2,973 people perished, the US Govt. then launched massive operations against terrorism in Afganistan
and Iraq. The results, up till today, are as follows:-
1. about 180,000 people killed worldwide as a result of
US-led war on terror;
2. about 4.5 million - number of refugees, the war on terror,
has created;
3. about USD 8 billion, the US will spend this year alone on
hunting Osama Bin Ladin and other terrorists;
4. so far, only 1 person is charged in the US with a crime
in connection with 9/11;
5. about 455 persons were detained at Guantanamo Bay;
6. about 7% of the people in the UK think the US and Britain
are wining the war on terror;
7. with thousands dead and millions of people displaced and
daily slaughter in Iraq and the escalation of the war in
Afghanistan, the US is having a tough time to convince the
world;
8. the US shows failure to address the Israel-Palestine issue;
the nuclear crisis in Iran and the blitz on Lebanon;
9. the US war on terror has made the world a less secure
place to live;
The above facts shows that the US is in fact losing the war
on terror and its foreign policies, together with the economy
is in big trouble.
Very soon, the Developing Nations(116-nations of NAM) are going to slam and denounce the US role as global policeman.
It will denounce the threats of preventive wars, the proclaimed
rights of the world's only superpower to occupy countries,
illegally and change regimes, and the existence of secret
prisons for torture.

We might think that terrorism is increasing, but because I haven't seen any data about it, I would say that tough it is probable it is not for sure: it's just that the media cover is now bigger that ever.
What is for sure though is that the world is definetly in a state of fear, and this state is pursued and maintained by authorities (I'm mostly thinking about the Bush administration but also about several decisions that were taken by the EU). Because this enable them to pass on laws that are on the border of violating human rights and so on.
We know that terrorism was never the real reason of the Afghanistan and Irak wars: July 2001, Bush board received a memo titled "Ossama Bin Laden plans to destroy the world": this was clear enough, no? Have actions been taken at this time? No and the results were there on 9/11. And this gave really good reason to the american government to start strategic wars and, oh, what a coincidence...in one of the region of the world where lies the richessest ressource in petroleum! When the US invaded Japan during WWII, they planned it somewhat carefully, by doing research on japanese traditions and way of thinking so as not to hurt people's feeling too much (most of the time, being invaded is difficult enough, no need to act as jerks in addition). Now Japan is one of the leading country in the world.
For the wars in middle east, the coalition stepped in without even training properly the poor 18 years old kid-soldiers they were sending: it was just a matter of time before abuses were to be commited. This can lead only to chaos and hate. So now, of course, nobody should be surprised that those guys hate western guts, because they know, and we all know that those invasions were not made on pure altruist base. Everybody knows about those lies, b/c they are so obvious: we people are powerless and our government are too coward to really stand up against the US. To keep on lying so as to make money of the back of destroyed families just prepare a nice confortable bed for the intensification of extremism, hence terrorism.
There is only one way to fight extremism and terrorism: it is education, through non violent manners, b/c violence calls for violence and no good can come out of a war based on lies and abuses.

I don't know what American policies were, are or will be.
The lives of innocent people were snuffed out during the 9/11 attacks. And there were many more who lived to suffer as a result. The attack was made on non-military people without warning of any kind.
Retaliation should not include attacks on innocent people causing death or long range suffering.

Who is to say what terrorism will do or how it will react? It is an idea. We need to worry more about individual people who beleive that they are right to judge and punish others because of what they think they might beleive.
Most of these people who are terrorists have a false veiw of what they think they hate--you cannot attack a nation for what what you think a few people may believe.
God is the judge and He does not ask us to do His work for Him--He will take care of it in the end.
For now, I do think the best thing the government can and should do is to protect its citizens--that is one of the reasons we have a government after all...

The object of that war was never terrorism, Bush was in Afghanistan and he made up some BS so he could attack Iraq and control the oil. Osama HATED SADAMS GUTS. They would have never been in it together. I wouldn't be supprised if he orchestrated the attack.

... the Americans had the first taste of death by terrorists. Till then they had been enjoying being terrorists themselves. For those whose were bleeding at the hands of terrorists, they would just look the other way saying, " it is a local skirmish'.

Our brave soldiers have taken the fight to the enemy. They have not had their footing under then enough since we engaged them to mount another attack on the US. If our policies are wrong what would be better allowing them to regroup and do nothing until we are attacked again? Jim
