When making a beef stew i buy meat for stew or either i use just a cheap steak cut up in pieces, celery, potatoes, carrots, you can use onions and bell peppers. I then add some italian seasoning, about 2 tablespoons of worcestershire sauce,2 beef bullion cubes and garlic powder. After the stew is done you can add a can of whole tomatoes or even diced ones, any kind will work. Optional thing to do is you can serve over rice or cooked noodles. I usually use a crockpot and let it cook all day but on the stove will work too. Oh most important thing lol is too add water too to it about 4-5 cups depending on how much you are making.

Well this is how my mother taught me to make beef stew...
Take a big pot for the stew and add a few tablespoons of oil to the bottom of the pan. Put on Medium heat.
Mix in a small bowl a couple cups of flour, seasoned salt, garlic and onion powder. DO NOT DISCARD MIX
Dip the raw stew beef into the mixture and start browning it.
After about 10 minutes, add maybe 4 cups of warm water, 2 cups of ketchup (sounds weird I know, but trust me), 1 whole onion quartered, and a touch of gravy master (for browning) or beef bullion. Let simmer on med-low stirring occasionally for an hour or two.
In the meanwhile, peel your potatoes and carrots.
About an hour and 1/2 before you want to eat, add the carrots and potatoes (cut however you want them). (you can add peas as well). Add more water if necessary, but let it cook for another hour.
About 1/2 hour before you gradually start adding your seasoned floor mix to the stew to thicken it, stirring constantly, use a little and add a little at a time. Adding too much can cause a lumpy thick mess. Let simmer for however long on low and serve with biscuits or dumplings.

dust the chopped meat (whatever meat you chose) in flour and then brown in oil, remove, add onions and let these soften, then add garlic/ any herbs you may want to create a richer flavour, then add the vegetables you want (root vegetables such as carrots or swedes work well) and cook for another 5-10 minutes, then add water to cover (some wine works great here to add more flavour), and leave to simmer for ages. A stew will take a good 2-3hours to cook really well so that the vegetables have shared their flavour with the sauce, and lost their crunchiness. It is best then to leave it to cool, and reheat (ideally the next day) for eating. When stews that are left to cool down before heating again and serving the flavours are much better

Cube1lb of beef. Add vegetables cut to about the same size...not too small..about 2 inches long. Veges can be carrots, onions, potatoes, turnips etc etc. Add water to half way up side of pot. Add some herbs such as thyme or sage...not too much. Put lid on pot and bring to a boil. Then turn down the heat to a simmer and simmer for about an hour. Test the meat to see if it is soft..if it is..it's done. I add brown gravy next. Mix the gravy powder in a little COLD water in a cup until there are no lumps. Turn the stew up to a boil again and add the gravy stirring constantly for a minute or so until it thickens. Enjoy.

1 - Get some stewing steak from your butchers and ask them to dice it for you.
2 - Put oil in pan and turn heat on full. When oil is hot put in meat and fry until golden. This is to seal in the flavour.
3 - With oil and meat juices in pan fry some roughly chopped onions, the bigger the pieces the better.
4 - Get a BIG pot and put meat and onions. Add carrots, mushrooms and some halved boiling potatoes.
5 - Put in enough cold water to cover all the ingredients + 3 inches or so. Add 2 beef stock cubes and mix with a wooden spoon.
6 - Put on a low heat (just under half heat usually works) put the lid on and leave for about 1.5 hours.
If you're not sure whether its done this is the test. Flaky meat and potatoes that fall to pieces. Enjoy with brown bread and tomato ketchup!

The simplest stew I know is Corned Beef Hash. You need:
1 Tin corned beef, 2 oxo, 1 onion, 2 carrots and 2 kg potatoes.
Peel potatoes onion and carrot, place in a pan with water and salt to taste. Bring to boil let it stew for about 1/2 hour then add oxo and 1/2 the corned beef, leave for further 15 mins. Serve with crusty bread (from bakers)

Start with browning some stew meat with some onion and season with Natures Seasoning.. Slowly add water and eventually fill pot to almost the top. Cover and let cook for 3 hours. Then add a can of diced tomatoes, then carrots, celery, potatoes....whatever you would like in there will work. Let cook till you reach the thickness you prefer. You can also add beef boullion cubes if there is not enough flavor. You can also add starch if not thick enough.
This goes real good with cornbread, or plain bread and butter.....

Beef Stew
1 tbsp. butter
1 lb. beef stew meat
3 tbsp. flour
salt and pepper
1 large onion, chopped
3 stalks celery, sliced
5-6 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
1/2 bag baby carrots or 3 carrots, peeled and sliced
1 container white button mushrooms, sliced
1 small can tomato paste
Heat heavy bottomed pot until very hot. Season flour with salt and pepper, coat stew meat with flour, covering well.(I ususally place the flour and meat into a ziploc bag and shake it, works very well!) Melt butter in pot, add meat and brown well on all sides. Removed meat from pan, reduce heat and add onion and celery. Cover and let sweat 2-3 minutes. Stir together tomato paste and about two cups of water, pour into pan and scrape brown bits from bottom of pan. (these brown bits at the bottom is called FOND, this is a great source of flavor when making a sauce) Return meat to pan, add potatoes and carrots. Add enough water to cover vegetables plus an inch. Cover and let stew simmer until potatoes are done and meat is tender, adding water as needed to keep from scorching.(about 45-50 minutes) Add mushrooms and cover and allow mushrooms to cook about 10 minutes until cooked through. Serve.

Here's my mum's recipe. it's very simple and absolutely ACE!. Chop and fry an onion with some stewing steak in a little oil. Add chopped swede and carrots. Pour over about 1.5 pints of stock made with beef oxo. Simmer for 1-2 hours. At the last minute dissolve a tablespoon of cornflour in a small cup of water, add to stew and bring to the boil to thicken. It's wonderful. And so easy - trust me!
