at 53 chirstopher is the historic stonewall bar where

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonewall_riots

I dont know what the current scene is like there, but its in the village, the aforementioned greenwich village, so if its not fun you just have to walk around. Right around there is also the monster, it has a long sea serpant like monster on the window. its been there forever and seems pretty popular. At the end of christopher is the queer pier, which is kind of a outdoor perma pick up ground.
If you take the 1 train to chistopher you'll be let off in the area, and you can walk uptown and west to cheslea till about 23rs street and find lots of places.
You can always research places on citysearch.com too.
