this happen to my mother and she is in alot of pain and will not go to the doctor . i scares me because she is also overwait.

She should see a doctor. It sounds like she might have torn a ligament in her rib cage. I have heard of someone coughing so hard that he broke a rib! Really, she has to see the doctor. If it is a broken rib, it could possibly puncture her lung and be a VERY serious problem.

I am not worried about her sternum, but she need treatment for the cough.

bad call the hospital and talk to them and tell them about her she may be seriously sick maybe you should talk to her and tell her its very important
