To God, a lie is a lie also. Men speak of "little white lies," but not God.
Revelation 21:8  But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and ALL LIARS, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

A successful marriage is based on trust; you need to talk to him and work this out.

Dear sissy,
Lies are lies. Unfortunately, they do gradually tear down trust in a relationship. Some people lie even when they dont have to.
Dont try to change him you wont be able to. However, you
may want to change the way you look at the lies. Since you asked this in the Religion and Spirituality maybe you are a Christian.... Or maybe not. Anyway, please dont be offended with my answer. Take what you need and spit out the rest.
Keep your hope in the Lord and eyes on the Lord and forgive your husband over and over. Pray for him also. This helps me.
Best wishes to you!

I had a friend get divorced over this situation, her husband just seemed to make stuff up for no reason. He lied about stuff it didn't even make any sense to lie about. You said yourself you don't trust him. You are not overreacting. Why would you want the most important relationship in your life to be one filled with lies?

under normal circumstances a lie is a lie. however, there are times i lied such as when it is " secrets time " regarding getting gifts for birthdays, Christmas and anniversaries. a person may be forced to lie in order to give a loved one something really special. but under normal circumstances in day to day living telling lies is not acceptable. would much rather hear the truth even if it hurts as this is much easier to live with in the long run.

I think small lies are OK, when he is trying to surprise you or if you are manic to the point that you overthink everything he says to you. I have told small lies before when I knew it would keep me out of an argument when I had gf who nitpicked on every little thing. However, if he tells lies that really matter, he is hiding stuff from you and can't be trusted. Get out of this relationship if he can't be trusted on THE THINGS THAT REALLY MATTER.

Lying is never ok, Okay, I lied...It's okay to cover up when you've done something really bad, LOL! No, seriously, I wouldn't mind if my husband said he was going to his mother's house, (somewhere he knows I can't stand going) but he instead went to the jewelry store and came back with a ring or bracelet. I'd just say, "Oh you tricked me good!" I'd be happy of course. I don't know how you can go through life without lying, it's just habit for me.

a lie is a lie unless he is lieing so that he may give you a surprise, or someone else and knows that you will spill the beans before he has a chance to give it.

And I hope your not talking about when you ask him if you look fat in those jeans, because he will lie everytime! And God bless him for that, because it just makes you feel better.

It is NEVER ok to lie to your spouse, rather you are a Chritain Or not a Christain.. If a person lies to their spouses that will cause the trust that should be there, to become very weak.

It is not OK to lie. If you are working overtime to buy a pearl necklace for your wife, when ans if she asks tell her I can't tell you now, or not now beautiful. She expects you to get her gifts and knowing from inference that it is for one will not spoil the surprise of the pearl necklace.
Tell him you believe he is a liar and please stop, just be more trusting and at the same time don't be a fool hope for the pearl necklace but if honesty is beyond him , dump him.
