Im getting my wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow, but i have a little cough. Its a dry cough and i only have it for an hour in the morning and an hour at night. But theres a chance it could open up the sores in my mouth when trying to heal. If i rescheduale it, it wont be until another month. What do u think?

I think you should inform your dentist of what you have just related and let him make the decision. My personal opinion is that your dry cough will not hinder the healing of the extractions.

If I were you I would probably go ahead and get it done anyway. If its just a dry cough that lasts an hr in the a.m. and p.m. you can try to just drink some water during those time periods to help calm the vocal cords in your throat. If you are having a " maxiofacial " dentist do the surgery just inform him or her of this concern of yours and they can always add a few extra stitches in your mouth if need be. I had two heavily impacted wisdom teeth pulled from my upper jaw a few years back and had little to no problem. But that was just my own experience. If you are that nervous about it, reschedule but who knows what will happen by next month with your cough. You might have it by then as well. Now maybe your cough is associated with allergy season. If you feel thats the case, you may want to wait to get the surgery done so that will lessen the coughing. But if you are in lots of pain and or have an infection, you best deal with it and get the process over and done with. Good luck with whatever you decide. Personally, I think you will be ok with getting it done tomorrow. Besides, they will give you a prescription for pain if need be and that will help calm you and your throat down if need be.

Hi; I just had four teeth removed. I have the same problem very dry cough. I was told as long as it is not a chest cold things would be fine. Had no problem all is healed. However make sure your dentist is well aware of your cough before hand. Good Luck

I would call your dental office and ask for their advice. They will let you know if the cough will affect the healing process or not. Maybe they will also refer you to your doctor to get something to suppress the cough for a few days. Also, if the wisdom teeth aren't bothering you or causing pain, you might want to wait for another appt.

i've had my wisdom teeth removed and i highly doubt that a little cough will open up your stitches. you shouldn't have sores in your throat..if you did, maybe the cough would affect them...but it's your teeth..gums...and besides they will put you on some type of pain releiver, you won't feel a thing...you'll sleep most of the day or 2 and in a week or so...it'll be like it never happend.:)

The dentist may prescribe a preventitive antibiotic after the tooth is pulled. If so infection won't be a major concern, but discomfort will definately be.Call ahead to your family doc for an opinion, and also inform yourdentist that if there is a cancellation, you want in if you decide to wait..

Why not just call the dentist and ask him / her? But, if it were me, I would probably just go to the dentist and get it done now. If you are worried about bacteria in sores, you just need to keep your mouth moist and swish a peroxide / water solution around every couple of hours.
