Ingredients:

Coconut Grated 1 cup
Red Chillies(dry) 2 nos
Mustard seeds 1 tsp
Urad dal 2 tsp
Tamarind (dry) 1 small piece
Salt to taste
Sugar 1 tsp
Hing 1 tsp
Oil 1 tbsp

Method:
Grate the Coconuts.
In a pan heat the oil and add 1 tsp of urad dal and chillies. Fry for a minute. Let it cool completely. Add tamarind, sugar, hing and coconut and grind it to a fine past
Do the seasoning with the other tsp of urad dal , mustard seeds in a tsp of oil.


Enjoy with steaming plain rice.

Toor Dal 1/2 Cup uncooked
Coconut 1 Cup fresh dessicated
Chana dal 1/4 Cup
Urad Dal 1/4 Cup
Tamarind 1 Small ball size lemon size
Asafoetida 1 Pinch
Dried Red Chillies 5 or 6 Piece dependent on individual taste
Salt 1 Teaspoon
Oil 2 Teaspoon
Preparation Method
Dry roast toor dhal,chana dhal,urad dhal,red chillies and asoefetida in cooking oil. Grind this mixture in waterinto a thick paste. Add coconut, tamarind and salt and grind it for a few more seconds until all the mixture blends into a smooth paste. Serve with steamed rice or can be served with dosa(rice pancakes

I do not like the powdery taste of dal in my coconut chutney as prepared in the south.This is what I do :

Slice fresh coconut & remove the brown coarse peel. Grind together to a paste with ginger,garlic,chillies,dhaniya patta &a pudina leaves.Use tamrind water or lemon juice to grind.Remove in a bowl and season with salt and add tarka using
mustard seeds,whole red chillies & kari patta.

There are two types of chutneys. One that goes with the rice.... read the receipe from the answers you already got.

one for idlis and dosas

You need finely grated coconut...roasted chana gram (In madras they call it pottu kadalai) green chilis.....salt. In a pan roast the "roasted chana gram" dry and add the finely grated coconut and green chillies....... With little water grind it to a fine paste. add salt.... Heat one tablespoon oil and fry mustard seeds and pour it on the paste you have prepared ...mix well. Your chutney is ready...

for tiffin ---Ingredients:

Coconut Grated -1 cup
Pottu kadalai-3/4 of Coconut
Green chilly for Ur taste
1"piece of ginger,salt.

Grind all the above said
Heat oil in the pan in that add mustard seed,after it splutter add black gram,red chillies,curry leaves fry briefly till the gram turns red and pour it on the chutney.

For rice
Ingredients
Coconut Grated -1 cup
red chillies
Bengal gram,Urud dal
coriander seed 1/2 tsp
Jeeragam-1/2tsp
Tamarind-2tsp
curry leaves,salt
tomato (if needs)
Fry all this separately,and grind .It will go nice with rice

If you have a mixie cut the coconut in small pieces and grind it in the liquid jar. Add a little of little of raw ground nuts in it and grind it. Add green chillies to taste. Also add salt to taste. Let it run in the mixer for some time. It will be ready to eat. To add flavour jus roast a little of Jeera and rai and sprinkle on top

coconut pieces,redchillys,tamarind little,hing,jeera,garlic few, curry leaves, in a pan pour little oil add redchilly,hing,jeera, garlic,curryleaves. fry for some time,then add coconut piece, fry till good smell comes.before removing from fire add tamarind & salt. let it cool then grind it to soft paste,garnish it with IN A PAN TAKE LITTLE OIL ADD MUSTURD SEEDS,IDLY DAL, CURRY LEAVES,REDCHILLYFRY IT AND POUR IT ON CHUTNEY. AND SERVE IT WITH HOT PLAIN RICE. CHUTNEY -2 COCONUT PIECE, GREEN CHILLYS,CORIANDER LEAVES,PUFFED CHANA DAL, GINGER,TAMARIND OR LEMON JUICE TO TASTE. GRIND ALL THIS IN A MIXIE TO A SOFT PASTE, LAST STEP AS USUAL AS THE FIRST ONE,SERVE IT WITH IDLY ,DOSAS

to gaint the mashed coconut there is a kind of instrument required. after mashing them fry it with some oil with mustard curry leaves. then its ready dude! simple! try it once!!!!!!!!!!!!!

grate the coconut.add salt, tamarind coriander leaves,and add freen chilli.if you want add little onion.
