To get a passport they say six weeks, but it averages twelve
requirements are that you provide an original certified birth certificate and/or immigration papers as well as Social secuity card valid picture ID and 2 valid passport photos
Submit this with the $97 dollars(going up again) + mailing fees to State Department (can be sent from the post office or county clerk)
The original documents will be held by the state department

I filled out my application at the county courthouse. Two passport photos, two forms of ID, such as driver's license, birth certificate, social security card, etc. You can call ahead to ask what kinds of ID are acceptable.
But be warned that photocopies are NOT acceptable, nor are carbon copies. Such as with a birth certificate, you need either the original or a duplicate original (issued by the office it is registered with) complete with the raised seal.
You will also need to know the birth dates and birth places (city, state, country) of both your parents.
My passport arrived in two weeks. If you're in a hurry to get yours, you can pay a higher fee (something like $200) to get it processed overnight.

One of the main requirements are sponsors such as family, friends or you have a job to go too. Getting a passport is not so easy now because of what happened with the 9/11 incident. It can take up to 5 years to obtain that passport. Getting a green card is more important...unless u have a scholarship in on of the Uni's

Best you deal right directly with the state department on this to get the best and right information. Passports alone will take time as you now have to have them to go back and forth from canada and mexico.
Visas also take time so you need to plan ahead. you wont get them in several weeks.

Go to the post office, fill out your forms, get your pictures taken, pay your $75.00 and they'll mail it in about 4 weeks. You can pay extra for a one to two week rush.
