The Red Wasp in the south are born mad lol. There sting hurts more than the black wasp that we also have down here.
Sounds like a case of mild allergic reaction to the sting. Best thing to do is see a doctor and have him test you for the reaction to red Wasp sting. We also have some other boogers that sting lol and or bite, Like the fire ants for example.
The doctor can tell you what stings you may be allergic to.

I've been stung by a bee and my ankle swoll up to the size of a golf ball pretty quick.

I've been tested for my allergies and I'm only mildlly allergic to bees, so a wasp would have been really bad. On that note, go get tested for allergies, you may be allergic to more then just the wasps in your new home.

Sounds like you are mildy allergic.

I was stung by a red wasp. Shooting pain to the bone, but brief.

Have a friend who is severely allergic to bees, but only mildly to wasps. You may be allergic due to your previous exposure to wasp venom, just that the red wasp has more of whatever your immune system reacts to.
