It means 'King'. Variants are: Koning, Koninck, Coninck, De with any of these or attached e.g. Deconinck. Go online to the Belgian (or Dutch) telephone directory.

De Coning is probably a Flemish (i.e. Belgian) variant.

The name means "the King" and it is Dutch or Flemish.
Most likely it is Flemish because of the use of the C as first letter of Coning.

I don't think it's french even though there are a lot of French name starting with "De" (nobles and former royalty)
