It could possibly be a form of psoriasis. Even if it's not there is a psoriasis medication in a squeeze bottle. The ingredient you're looking for is salicydic acid, I think that's the same stuff as aspirin. I have used it on the heels of my feet. First wash whatever part with hot water and rub some of that in, within a couple days you'll be gorgeous again. The new over the counter Phisoderm has it as one of its ingredients, look for whatever has the highest percentage of it. My ex had rough elbows, that stuff took care of it pretty much immediately. It's sold over the counter.

I use Shea butter or cocoa butter lotions. You just have to keep using it though. Don't stop or it will come back. Vaseline, yep, just plain Vaseline will also help. Put your preference on your knuckles and elbows before going to bed and after a shower, morning or evening. I don't have rough spots on my knuckles but maybe the type of work you do have something to do with that. Elbows, well, that is one of the parts of our body that we use the most. I hope you have success in removing the rough skin.

Try Kerasol which removes dry rough skin from heels of feet. Also try an alpha hydroxy acid. I got a 12% solution from the pharmacist at Wal-Mart for about $10. Also use a pumice stone or some other scrub.
I alternate between the two acid products because I don't know which one is doing the trick. Just know as I get older, I have more weird skin.

Along with the other suggestion (oils, luffa, etc.) and what you're already doing, try a bleaching cream such as Esoterica. It's relatively inexpensive, and you can purchase it at almost any pharmacy, Walgreen's, Walmart's, or even online. It worked wonders on me (when I was younger) to lighten freckles. Also, before you use any moisturizer, it's good to soak the area(s) for at least 15 minutes (like after you take a bath). Something as simple as vasoline is an excellent moisturizer as long as you soak first. It helps hold the water in the skin. Good luck!

Try using a product like Esoterica, or any product that has hydroquinone. Be sure to read all the instructions and warnings that come with it.
