I had spotting with my first baby. I was so worried that I was miscarrying that I was the first in the queue at the Doctor's the next day. I was told it often happens and not to worry, but was sent for a scan to make sure there were no problems. I can't tell you the relief at seeing the heart beating on the screen. Your friend should see a Doctor so she can be sure that all is OK with the pregnancy and if not to get the care she needs. Fingers crossed there are no problems and a healthy baby is on the way!

She should make an appointment. At this stage in pregnancy there is very little a doctor can do if something is going to go wrong. Sometimes when the fetus attaches to the uterus a small amount of spotting occurs so this all maybe very normal. If possible your friend should get plenty of rest drink plenty of water and start an over the counter prenatal vitamin. Good Luck you guys hope all turns out perfect.

Hello.
Well, even though some women do spot, even all through the duration, everyone is different, just as every pregnancy is different. For example, I had what would be classed as a normal light period every month until I was seven ,months pregnant with our first daughter, who was born just as healthy as can be. However, I suffered 4 miscarriages during our family making days, where we ended up with six healthy babes, who have grown and are growing into lovely human beings!!!
With all four of the miscarriages, they were all as different to each other as the births of our children were to each.
Don't panic your friend, but suggest she see a doc as soon as she can. Not only for the spotting, but also to obtain some information on support that is out there for young, single (it doesn't sound like she is married) mum's to be. Also, when she goes in for that first ultra sound, she will be blown away. It is one of the most amazing things in the world. I had tears of joy and total disbelief of the power of creation, rolling down my cheeks everytime I had one. Especially now, with the 3D scans. Just brilliant!!!!.
Remember though, babies in the womb don't look anything like you think they do, so beware to see some strange yet fantastic pictures with the 3D.
If this pregnancy is a welcome one, or even if it isn't that welcome but she decides to keep the baby, tell her to just sit back and enjoy the ride, it is awesome. Maybe not the most pleasant at times, but totally awesome
I hope everything works out well for her and her bundle of joy is just that for her, a bundle of never ending joy.
All the best.
Helen :-)
ps, don't forget, GET HER TO A DOCTOR. ;-)

It could be normal, some women do spot all the way through pregnancy, but if I were her I would go to see the Dr. She'll need materinity care in any case and better sooner than leave it too late.
The spotting might even be the start of a miscarriage - she needs to go to the Dr.

She should go to the doctors because it could be the start of a miscarriage, but lots of women do spot all through their pregnancy.

it can be normal during the very begining or pregnancy, but in some cases its not ok. they only way to know is to have her servix checked by a doctor, and beside that, to avoid problems later they need to document that she spotted in the begining.
You should always go to the OB when you find youre pregnant anyhow, so they can make sure you're not lacking anything the baby needs to grow.

Could just be implantation bleeding, which is fairly common, BUT if your friend is stressing out about, it won't hurt to go to the doctors, which she'll have to do anyway since she is pregnant, to get midwife appointments set up-
As with anything to do with pregnancy, if scared or worried, seek medical help as soon as possible.

It could be normal. Many women spot during pregnancy, but if it were me, I'd go see the OB just in case. Early in pregnancy, they might not want to do a full exam because it can cause miscarriage, but they can advise her.

Some ladies do this, the time of their first cycle. It could indicate a problem, or this could be normal for her. She needs to contact her doctor, or speak to the nurse of the doctor that she is going to use.
