All day I hear things on here saying that I am oppressed and all Muslim women are being dealt some sort of wrongs. So I'm going to give everyone a chance to tell me what they think. I will answer everyones post indivudually. I have half and hour before I must leave to go to work, but what I don't get answered before I leave, I will answer when I get home.

Bonzo- If you're refering to if, God willing, I go to Paradise,no I will not be one of the servants in Paradise. When people talk of the virgins of Paradise, it's just a misinterpritation from the Holy Quran. It says teh servants in paradise have never been touched and no human has seen anything like them.

kja63- ok, I promise you, no steriotypes. I just needed to do this post to crush some streriotypes about Muslim women. I'm open to any criticism.

Deazone- I beleive there are similarities in religion, but culture is the big deciding factor on how a certain religion is practiced. It actually says in the Christian Bible for women to cover herself. But western culture doesn't require it, so it's not commly practiced.

poki poki- I know I'm not going to get through to everyone. They will stick to their stobborn opinion, but maybe this will open some eyes. Salam my brother.

Ice Pick- The reason we dress modestly is out of respect for our bodies and ourselves as well as our family. If you have a daughter, would you be comfortable with her dressing the way you see some women dressed. Barley covering what needs to be covered? No, she's you little girl and you wouldn't want her to take such a low opinion on herself and let anyone that sees her think anything low of her. Modest dress is just a decency thing.

The Ego- The beard is just a sign of devotion in Islam. I know alot of Muslim men and none of them have beards. As for modestly dressed women, they have no influence on their children to be suicide bombers.

Alex- Nice words.

Biker- I think you just wanted 2 points.

Amber- Thanks, I know as a Muslim woman you have to deal with oppression every day just as I do. Oppression from complete strangers who are intimidated by a piece of fabric.

bklyn barracuda- I'm sorry you had such a terrible experiance, but what went on is a cultural thing, not a religious thing. That's the culture in Iraq, brought on by a hard life and years of war.

Queen Hag- I never said I wear a scarf becasue men cannot control themselves. That statement was one steriotype I have posted this topic to clarify, and I did when I answered Ice pick.

Larry M- I don't beleive women should be stoned to death for aldultury. The punishment for this offense in the Holy Quran is house confinement for both the man and the woman and a whipping for both. It's actually less severe than the punishment in the Bible. I think I am equal to my husband and any man. My husband would never think to lay a hand on me except in a loving way. Women were made from mans rib, not feet to be below him, not his head to be above him, but his rib to be his partner and always by his side.

Tammy L- I agree with you, women are the carriers of the next generation and we should be given so much respect for that. Do you ever see a pregnant woman wearing some low cut shirt and a mini skirt? don't you feel bad for her child that his mom is so insecure she feels thats an appripriate way to get atttention. I have so many rights. You're right God did make women beautiful and we should show it off, but only to deserving people. I don't cover my face, but I dress modestly out of respect for myself and my family and my God.

Jess- I'm glad you see the truth. Our religion was hijacked and now normal, everyday Muslims are being grouped in with those people who commited terrible crimes in the name of our religion.

s21181- Who are you to tell me I'm not supposed to think? In my opinion western society is the sex cult. Women grow up thinking their power is their bodies and they sell thier soul to any takers.

Chaniann- I know I will not get anything positive, but I had to do this.

This is the last batch I will get done before I have to leave.

Wizard- I agree many Middle Eastern women are oppressed, not just Muslim women are oppressed over there. I'm not middle eastern but my husband is from Palestine. My point is to show everyone there are many Muslim women who are free, just becasue we dress modestly doesn't mean we are being beaten or any harm is being done. Everyone all over tv and even in here are calling for moderate Muslims to stand up and bash streiotypes, so here I am.

Paul S- Yes, that is the portriat of a Muslim woman. Smart, family oriented. That is what almost never seems to be shown. That was wonderful. It describes a normal Muslim family.

Kong- I would divorce him. My sister in law's husband just hit her one time and my husbands brother put him in the hospital and the divorce was drawn up that day. This was in Palestine.

Sway- Thank you for your post.

I hate most of the answers you will get on here.

They are by idiots who have no idea what Islam is about, except what they read in the news media.

And, in Islam, as well as their Christianity, there are going to be different opinions on what the women feel. Alot of Christians say their women are second class citizens.

OK - It is reported that in some parts of the world, if a muslim is raped, she is considered an adultress and to be punished unless she can provide up to 4 witness's that say she was raped? Also - why can a Muslim man date or marry outside his religion, but a Muslim can not? How come a Muslim women must wear a vail or scarf? **Note - this is just because I spent time in the middle east and I have to say some women from the middle east are some of the most beautiful and exotic looking in the world. Why hide such beauty?

I do not believe that all Muslim Women are oppressed. I do believe that most women living in the Middle East are oppressed. Do you live in the Middle East? If so, do you have your Husbands or Fathers permission to be on the Internet?

Obviously YOU are not oppressed, but many are. Just because some people prospered and lived a good life under Nazi rule does not make it a good government or a good way of life.

I usually try not to be stereotypical of people of whatever type (this is exactly what I try to fight against)...I usually look at the backgrounds of particular people before I deal in my view (thank college education in sociology for that...)

Since you asked though...in the poor and uneducated regions of the Muslim World (Afghanistan, some parts of Pakistan, and parts of Muslim Africa being the more serious) and even in the supposed heart of Islam - Saudi Arabia, women cannot drive, sometimes cannot be educated even to kindergarten level, cannot wear anything beyond a burka and those clothes that remind me of Sand people in "Star Wars" (not even jeans and regular clothes), are limited to certain types of jobs (not the full repertoire as alloted to Muslim men there), and are killed or marginalized even if they are victims of rape in the name of some family's honor. What I am asking you is does Islam support any of these measures? And if not...what do you suppose they (the affected peoples) should do about it?.

Whether or not you respond...be well.

there is not any longer something incorrect in Love between A Non-Muslim guy and Muslim female, yet a Non-Muslim guy will in no way marry a Muslim female. He may use them yet even as it comprises marriage they received't be waiting. Muslim ladies are not from now on trust worth.

I think no matter what ethnicity or religion you are or belong to there will always be those that discriminate against others but I think your question would be answered best by saying that for whatever reason people try to project there own personal feelings towards others when they don't have a clue what they are talking about It would be best for those who are oppressed or are being delt some kind of wrong to speak for them selves rather then others trying to speak for them that is my opinion

Women and men should be equal. Women are the childbearers ans should be treated with respect and allowed to dress anyway they wish and do whatever they would like to do within reason/
I do not believe a man should have any type of control or say over a women.....if anything it should be the other way around.

I think it is because Muslim women do not seem to have any rights...I think its time for a muslim women movement...
Throw away the moo moo dresses and quit covering your face.
God made each and every one of us and we are all beautiful and who wouldnt want to see the beauty of god's creation.....

BTW Most american women dont dress "skanky" or "barely covering" Would you call that Jeans and a tshirt or sweater bad? Disrespectful?

I think steriotyping is just used in ignorance of the unknown. How we feel is our own doing, noone else can make us feel anyway if we are strong in our own believes in everyday life. What is fed to us from birth onwards is a way of brain washing to what our mentors want us to believe and follow. This manifests fear so we will not stray. But those who dare to question, have to do it in away to be heard quickly, before they are mutted and cast out for not understanding they don't have to believe everything that is taught. Hence; the fearfull of the unknown.
We must follow are heart and soul to find the truth. But..... even though i do not follow a SET given religion, with my own believes, i surely believe that i will meet my father when it is my time to pass.
love, light and happiness to all.

Why are they burning down schools that teach women in Afghanistan?

Maybe you aren't oppressed, but you can't deny that many are.

Can you?

I can careless how you dress, the oppression is purposeful lack of equal opportunity in education and society.

Bravo My lady I really admire your guts and you have really given some good answerer's to those who need them.
Personally I don't think any body should have any problems with you being a Muslim or wearing a scarf or a veil if you feel like it.
Go ahead gal do what you feel is right and what you feel in your heart. I really admire people who stick to their faith and have strong beliefs in their faith. Religion has no face for me be it with or without a beard. An honest Muslim is much better than a dishonest christian and a honest christian is better than dishonest Muslim. so the Qs of religion does not arise when it comes to judging a person you have to judge him/her according to his/her merits and not his/her religion.
All the best

I don't know about your personal case. And, as far as stereotyping, everyone on earth does that. The Bible tells us that we are all hypocrites. Look in the mirror if you don't believe me.

To answer your question. MOST Muslim women are oppressed. They are belittled, forced to cover themselves. Forced to be the blame for evil of some men. ETC.

Maybe that doesn't apply to you. So, if it doesn't, you don't have the experience or knowledge to answer our stereotypical questions anyway. Just as I, who have not been in certain situations as Christian women, cannot answer questions about their situation.

JUST BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HAPPEN TO YOU, DOESN'T MEAN IT DOESN'T HAPPEN!
