I have a Brita filter and a water bottle that I keep in my fridge. Whenever I want to drink water, I drink straight from the water bottle, and refill it as needed. Are there germs festering in the water bottle from my mouth? How often do I need to clean it?

Clean it daily if you are drinking right out of it.

take a coarse paper and tear it into small bits and put them into the bottle pour some water close the bottle and shake in violently for 1 minute and then drain the contents out your bottle is pretty clean and without any soap / detergent smell. Since this is very easy you can do it as often as you feel like.

Every day. That would be really nasty if you did not do that because that's letting all the bacteria build up in there.
