Do outdoor cats do this too?

This is one of those cat things people won't understand. Some say it's just excitement. Some say it's practicing the killing bite to the neck. Some say it's a bird call. The only ones who really know are the cats. and they are not telling.
It is not cruel to keep a cat inside. Indoor cats live much longer than outdoor cats. And ask the birds how they feel about outdoor cats.

My outdoor cats don't make that weird noise at anything but they act out in strange ways. One likes to lick the rain off my car windshield. Another will get in some bamboo in the yard and pretend he is a tiger. They are playing out fantasies. It is so funny seeing the indoor guys make that noise. I kind of wish my guys would do that too. It must have something to do with their fantasy of hunting birds that they can't get to.

Well how about this...? I get a magpie thats sits on my roof and if my cat is in the window the cat chirrups at the magpie and the magpie chirrups back at the cat. They spend time chatting to each other.

My cat is an outdoor cat I've never heard her make that noise outdoors, if she see's a bird while she's out, she goes straight into "stealth" mode.

My outdoors cats do no longer make that weird and wonderful noise at something yet they act out in unusual techniques. One likes to lick the rain off my vehicle windshield. yet another gets in some bamboo contained in the backyard and pretend he's a tiger. they are taking part in out fantasies. it is so humorous seeing the indoor men make that noise. I sort of want my men would try this too. It would desire to have something to do with their fable of looking birds that they might't get to.

It's in there nature to hunt. They know they should be eating that bird. Outdoor cats may not make the same noise because they know they have to be quite to catch their supper.

All 3 of my cats do this when they're watching birds indoors. I guess they don't make this noise when they're outside cos they just love to bring birds in for us!! Yuck!

Because at the end of the day, cats are cats and they love birds, so if you have your cat trapped inside (which is very cruel) it naturally wants to get to the birds and can't. Why dont you let you cat outside for afew hours each day and your cat will thank you.

It's because they want the bird and the cat is thinking how to get it

It's out of excitement. Is there teeth chattering? That teeth chattering is believed to be the "kill bite" (the bite cats use to finish off their prey after catching it).

I would assume outdoor cats do it, as well.....since my male will do it while sitting in the yard.
