I have not had lap band surgery, however, I do work for an insurance company and I can tell you that most do not cover it. If you can't afford lapband surgery then you might consider The Cambridge Diet. It was developed by a team of researchers at Cambridge University in Britain in the 1970's for their morbidly obese patients with medical issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. Following the diet produces the results of gastric bypass but, obviously, for a fraction of the cost and without the surgery. I was 60 lbs overweight when I started and am now a size 10 and almost at my ideal weight! Many people who use the diet, however, have 100 lbs or more to lose. For more information on The Cambridge Diet feel free to surf my website below. As far as lapband goes you can either have your physician submit the information to insurance to throw your dice and see if they'll cover it (who knows, it's worth a shot!) or you can consider working out a monthly payment plan with the hospital. Best of luck in whatever you decide!

If you're looking for a private policy, you'd better start doing research on plans available in your state... Not all insurance companies offer coverage in all states. Not all plans offer the same benefits. Most insurance companies cover lap band in one way or another, its finding a plan that you qualify for that is difficult. I don't really have additional info without knowing what state you live in.

Lap band/Gastric Bypass Surgery /gastrectomy/stomach stapling (all types of bariatric surgery) is very safe nowadays. It is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your obesity surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin got her surgery for gastric bypass in India through the forerunners healthcare .She is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 65lbs in 5 months. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps
