Got some AA ones from Jessops and they are totally knackered now - They've probably only been recharged about 20 times.

I have some rechargeable's and they're meant to be good for around 800 recharges. Go to the Jessops website, find the batteries you bought and it should tell you how many recharges they're meant to be able to take. If it's more than 20, you should be entitled to some more.

What kind of rechargeables are they? With NiCads and Alkalines, if you don't follow certain usage patterns, you'll shorten their lives. NiMH cells are more robust, pretty much all brands I've seen boasting 1000+ recharges.

I have Rayovac NiMH cells, and I'm sure I'm far short of 1000 charge cycles with them ... I've had them for 3-4 years (I wrote the first charge date on them,) and would've had to have charged them daily to get to 1000 by now. They hold a noticeably lesser charge than day one, (but still usable.)

I don't know if they'll hold up to their 1000+ charge claim (I think I even threw out a couple last year,) but in the end still doing better than if I bought alkalines all those years.

I'd take them back cos they usually last for between 500 and 1000 charges depending on the type of battery

cheap batteries and charges can easily be damaged and when the batteries are over charged it wrecks them pretty quickly. you don't need to charge them over night, usually. 8-14 hours is somjetimes suggested but only for the initial charge. 2 years is quite a life expectancy, but i think you need to replace them.

they only last as much as you use them... they arn't even warmed up yet... it needs at least 50 re/dis/charge cycles before they work at full capacity..same with mobile phone batteries too....
