Since the first response seemed to be someone who obviously has issues, I decided I would respond to give you a legitimate response, one that may actually help you.
You need to remember that it is not about living by the golden rule (and thinking about it so much) as a "good" or "bad" thing. When you live by the golden rule, it means nothing if you are only doing it because you feel it will be "good". Treating others as you wish to be treated is something that comes naturally.
Further though, living by the Golden Rule has to be coupled with other "rules" of life, such as taking care of yourself, setting proper priorities in our lives (priorities such as online life needs to come AFTER our offline life and responsibility is taken care of). The Golden Rule is about treating others properly and respectfully, which is a great way to be, but it is only one brick in the wall of our lives. We can not live by one rule alone.
As for your thinking about it all of the time, that can be a positive thing, because it means that you are aware-- you are aware of how you treat others, and how you make an impact in this world, but you will find that it will come naturally and not much thought is needed-- and when you get to that point, you will need to replace that "obsession" with something else.
I suggest you continue to treat others well, but focus on the bigger picture, and not just on one rule of life.
I hope that helps :-)

Living by the Golden Rule is great... and while you have to reassure and remind yourself now, eventually, it will become second nature and many good things will come to you. Try not to always expect a good outcome, however... the operative word here is expect - it could be very disappointing if you don't get the same in return.

I think that that is a good way to live. If more people started treating everyone else the way that would like to be treated, the world would be a better place, or at least I think that it would. I bet it is hard. Especially when you have these rude people that do not care one bit. Sometimes you have to bite your tongue and walk away. I really do think that it is good, but hard.

It is good. I live by that golden rule...or at least try to. Some people make it very hard. But I will not be swayed. Keep living by the golden rule.

There's nothing wrong with treating others like you would want to be treated; it does earn a lot of respect. But it does not earn any popularity; the average person will see this as a 'you're too good for me' reputation. Never hurting for social contact, but can be rough on a personal relationship...

You sound like an angel, girl! Good on you, but make sure you do something a little evil or bad once in a while. Nobody expects you to be perfect all the time, and if you keep this up you'll possibly drive yourself crazy.

Ecclesiastes 7-10 new international version "There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins". What you are attempting is a GOOD way to try to live.
