A mantra is more like a chant... usually used to place ppl into a trance. Self-hypnosis. As far as none of it being real, I think some of these people, Religious and Non-Religious alike, have this idea that you wave a wand and in a puff of smoke you get the result you want. Granted, even those who get into witchcraft think that at first. It's all very psychological... but still works to a degree.
As for giving spells... I do not do any kind of rituals, spells, etc... But an example of a mantra as a "spell", though childish, is saying "I think I can" over and over. I guess outsiders don't really look at that stuff that way, yet are quick to teach their children these things.

Only mantra will not help any one unless the capability and righteousness to use the mantra is attained by the user. Check yourself!

Please stay away from all the 'mantras' and 'magic spell stuff'. It only leads to death.
You'll be much better off without them.
Only believe in your God who is more powerful than any spell or magic, and then see the wonders that will work in your life.

Actually, ceremonial magick and ritual can be very effective with extreme dedication and attention to details.
If you want results then you need to learn and practice the most ancient and powerful discipline.

I believe its known as prayer.
You clasp your hands together if you feel like you should, then you talk to God with your eyes closed if you feel like it should be like that, then you believe that God will answer your prayer and you just wait for a miracle.
