Is there anything that can whiten teeth that are dead?

When my husband was a boy he fell and chipped his two front teeth. His parents opted to have root canals done versus having the teeth pulled. They are dark and discolored.

No. Once the tooth is dead, there is no more blood flow to the tooth causing the tooth to become weak and decaying easily. the best thing to do is get crowns imediately, because they are stronger since they hold the tooth all the way around. Veneers are not good for dead teeth because the are cosmetic only and dont create streangth and support for the tooth. It is important to have this done because the tooth can become very brittle very fast and then you'll have bigger problems and a much bigger expense. GOOD LUCK.

it's true...typical teeth whitening treatments will not help. there's nothing wrong with asking your dentist to try the zoom whitening treatment though. it's completely safe (and whitens up to 8 shades on most people). If that doesn't work, he should get porcelain veneers. They are stain-resistant and will last for a really long time.

Teeth whitening will not whiten dead teeth and will only remove stains off of the surface of any dental work (crowns, veneers, bridges, cavities, bonding, etc.).

I saw in my dentist office that they can do veneers! You might want to try getting him those, but plain whitening technique will not work! You best bet is to take him back to the dentist!
