I remember them. There were several kinds. Some you could buy loose at 6d a quarter (two and a half new pence for four ounces, for those who don't remember before 1972!). They were white sugar with red tips. You could also buy those in packets but I forget how much they were - maybe tuppence or threepence. Then there were chocolate ones which had real cigarette paper (and cork tips).

'Cool' was not a word in our vocabulary in those days (except as the opposite of warm or hot) but, yes, one swaggered around acting grown up and feeling like a sophisticated woman-of-the-world!

Shoo U're a youngster, they r still around. Remember gum cigarette sticks that when u blew through them they blew out smoke? Now they were cool! I couldn't wait till I tried the real thing and after thirty years of the terrible habit I stopped cold trukey, it can be done I'm living proof.

they made me feel real cool. but then when the non eating ones which came out later. the ones you blow into and flour pops out like real smoke, Hmm they were cool.
then i started smoking the real thing at 14 i used to smoke no:10 and now i don't smoke at all. so really on the whole those sweet cigarettes were not much cop anyway. it only puts you onto the real thing

Yep, sure did. And do you remember the ones that had paper wrapped around them? You had to peel it off before chewing them. You'd end up getting most of it in your mouth anyway as it stuck to the candy! I'll never forget that chalky taste.

Oh yeah, I do..and I remember some of the powder that was in the packages which I would try to use to emulate the smoke.
I also tried to get a local store to stop carrying them when my kids were little and they laughed at me.
SInce then, some stores HAVE stopped carrying them.
