For the most part, by rejecting Jesus, they are usually rejecting his teachings. If they were to accept his teachings, it would most likely require that they accept that they are not living according to those teachings. This causes them guilt and they don't like that feeling.
For them, it is easier to adamantly deny his existence than accept what the truth would mean in their lives.

It's a theory that has been put forward by a number of people. The Infidel Guy interviewed a gentleman recently who suggested that there was a group of Romans who benefited from the spread of the Christianity cult out of Jewish society into mainstream Roman culture. Those who support this theory can find some reasons to question the existence of a historical Jesus. However, it smacks too much of a conspiracy theory, similar to those who think the Government killed President Kennedy or destroyed the World Trade Center.
The bulk of the evidence suggests that Jesus did live in Palestine in the time somewhere the around the early CE. The historian Flavius Josephus refers to Jesus and his brother James in writings dated around 90 CE.
The website below lists some documents that support Jesus existence, as well as some that simply give cultural background.
The most important thing regarding this, however, is that Josephus makes no reference to the resurrection. One would think this kind of news would make it into the history books compiled by someone like Josephus who wrote fondly of Jesus. So even though this writing supports Jesus existence, the absence of any mention of a resurrection gives support to those skeptical that Jesus rose from the dead.

2 millennium years ago all it take is a pair of eyes to prove whether this man Jesus existed or not - both true for believers and non-believers alike. What sets apart the believers and non-believers 2 millennium years after is that the former has evolved from their physical eyes to their spiritual eyes and continue seeing Jesus to this present unchanged as he was 2 millennium years ago. On the other hand the non-believer stagnated to just seeing with their physical eyes thus lost sight of the Jesus who resurrected after his death.
Peace and be blessed.

In the bible Jesus said , We will perish for the lack of knowledge '' meaning if we turn deaf hear toward Him we are the ones that is missing out of the goodness. Jesus said that every kneed shall bowel. Jesus understand also that there will be non-believers that is why he say that he patiently wait for us to turn away from our sins. Jesus said that he rain on the just as well as the unjust meaning that we should love them even more . Just like the ninety-nine sheeps and that one Jesus went looking for and they ask him why are you looking for that one sheep that is lost and Jesus said the them i am not worry about those I already have . I want the one that is lost. When Jesus found that lost sheep He was happy and He celebrate with happiness. If you want to know anything feel free to ask.

Most don't. In fact, it's a small minority of atheists (which is already a small minority) who deny the physical existance of Jesus. Most of us, in my experience, acknowledge that he existed physically, and was a kind and tolerant MAN, but not a Messiah or anything of the sort.
However, if you're talking about present times (spiritually, for example), then it's because he died some 2000 years ago

y didn't u provide ur yahoo id too since this question is for an atheist? i know, it's either cause u want "evidence" that Jesus didn't exist or it's because u actually think u can convince him that he did exist. if this is the case i can already tell u that this is not the way u can convince him. events in his life will probably have a more more impact that this.

I wasn't aware that non-believers insisted that he didn't exist. I am not a christian (nor anything else for that matter) but I am quite sure that he existed. The Koran for example not only accepts his existence but also extolls his virtues. Mohammed calls Jesus 'his brother'.

Probably for the same reason that you insist that he not only exists but plays some form of significance in the lives of those who do not believe in your religion.

This question could be asked in a different way as well... Just change the name Jesus to Zeus... and you have your answer.
I'm not sure why people are so quick to discard other people's beliefs and call them all "Myths", yet hold on to one of their own and NOT see how others can discard theirs just as easily.

Jesus did exist. He is now dead. This can not be argued. He died nearly two thousand years ago. That means Jesus has not existed as a sentient being for nearly two thousand years. He no longer exists.
I know that many theists think I am completely irrational and delusional for thinking someone could not live to be over 2000 years old but it would seem like common sense to me.
