So our nieghbors behind us have these masive dogs. They are mean, vicious animals. One ran out in front of my car and tried to attack the mail woman. She sprayed him with that stuff and yet he kept trying. Only until she emptied the can did he run away. Now my nieghbors on either side of me complain of the barking, too. It comes through all our windows ALL night long, and it's effecting all of our sleep. Now the dogs have broken their owners fence down and can get through my neighbors yard. She has an 8 month old baby, and a puppy. My neighbor on the other side of me has a 2 year old. Both moms are scared for their childrens lives and their own safety. I'm scared for my life since I saw them attack. So this is what has happened now. First we called the city to complain about the barking(before they started to get loose). They said, unless we have proof (like a recording, which could be faked mind you) of them barking for more than 20 minutes continuiously. continued down.....

Next, we complained to the dog warden about our concerns for safety, here is what he told us. You have to trap the dogs in your yard, that is the only way they can pick them up or do anything about it. Are you kidding me? We are all practically fearing for our lives and we are suppossed to trap the damn things in our yards? Besides, the dogs can jump all of our fences with one leap. They have said that the dogs owners are within city codes, but we are scared. What can we do? He is unreasonable(the owner), we have all tried to speak to him calmly. Is their anything we can do to protect our families? Thanks in advance!...(I live in Ohio if you need to know the laws...)

ok, the last bunch of answers makes me think that no one is actually reading my entire question. I have already written that the owner is unreasonable. We have all tried to talk to him. We get no where....seriously people, read the whole damn question if you want to help someone. Thanks to those that have read my problem and have offered their help.

It sounds like you are all rightly upset and no one seems to be willing to help ( cops ect. ). So what do you do? If these dogs are on your property, shoot them. Then call the authorities tell them you were about to be attacked and you did what you had to do to protect yourself on your own property. These comments may seem harsh but you have tried all other means. I own two very large dogs myself but I am a responsible thoughtful dog owner this man you live next to obviously is not. it's time to take things into your own hands before someone is attacked or even killed.

This could a long one unless you want to buy a handgun for your protection and kill the animals if they attack. Of course you'll have to get it legally for your state. Permits, classes, etc.
If you don't want a gun in the house, one that you can always sell later after the dog issue is dealt with, then gather the neighbors around and everyone try this.
Get a large create, dog carrier. What I'm thinking is a like a rather large mouse trap, but it won't kill the dog, only trap it in the create.
You'll need a bait tray/plate, an arm weighted at the opposite end of the tray, going from it to a spring that will slam the create door closed and lock when it takes the bait from the tray.
For the lock, I'm thinking some form of 'snap' lock from the hardware store, you can always ask the man/woman there which is the better lock, but get at least three of them to install on the door.
It may take a little ingenuity, but with everyone working together, it should work for you.
In the mean time if the dogs run in front of your car again, I suggest you hit the gas, put it to the floor and run their azzes over for everyones safety. You can always say "I hit the wrong peddle" should anyone question you about it. And bring up the leash law if there is one, and the fact that these dangerous animals are not controlled.

Lace some steaks with unisom every night for a week make sure the dogs see you toss them over the fence to them, eventually lace them with so much that they never wake up!! JK
I know you can't do that and obviously the city doesn't care. Have you talked to the owners about their dogs? If you have and they have done nothing or you do and they do nothing you and your neighbors may have to consider doing something drastic.

Final note I am not a cruel person but if it were me and the darned thing ran out in front of me I would have hit and killed it 1/2 the problem solved, maybe you'll get lucky and someone will hit them both when they are "at large".

Wow!! as the owner of a big dog i understand the owner being unfriendly... However, i can not believe that they let their dogs do all that... As far as i am concerned they are being irresposible pet owners. Call the cops, Call the cops, call the cops. In the middle of the night, if the dog is barking, make sure the cops see the damage the dogs have done. I hate to say it but make their lives so miserable that they either have to move or get rid of the dogs... last thing you want is for someone to get bit. Are the dogs on leads when they are outside now? Because if they aren't and they can get out of the yard that is a big ticket... best of luck

I am not sure where you are living at, therefore the laws may differ somewhat. But here's my answer to you.

Get a petition signed by a simple majority in your immediate neighborhood. This would be people around the effected house and what is around you and your neighbors.

Next video tape the dog. It would provide visual proof rather than just audio proof. That way there can be no mistaking you have the right dog and house. Note this may cause some issues with your neighbor with the dog.

Confront the neighbor with the proof and let them know what is being planned if they do not take care of the problem.

Lastly, I cannot believe that the police have not assisted you with this. It would seem to me that there would be laws in effect to deal with this. You may also want to research the city and county ordinances and state law

First thing I would do is call animal control and let them know the danger and that the dogs do get loose and the fear you and neighbors has ,as for the barking I feel for you because I have 2 small dogs and I dont allow them to go outside and bark they are house dogs and sometimes when they go out they want to bark alot so I have a water bottle all I have to do is squirt them once with water and they know not to just stand and bark I respect my neighbors .Have you and others went to the neighbors to discuss this I would .If and when they are loose again you can call animal control they will come get them .good Luck be careful .

Phone the humane society the first time you see the dogs out of their own yard, keep phoning, after 11 p.m.if the dogs are barking, phone the police on the noise.Get your neighbor to phone too.Keep phoning until you get some help with this matter before someone innocent gets hurt.Get them nasty dogs out of your neighborhood but do it legally and don't touch the dogs or you will be charged.Don't let up until someone listens.

contact the local council & make a report, have a representitive come out to your home so that they can whitness these events. If nothing happens from that, call the rspca, there are laws whereby a dog owner must not allow their animal to be a menace to the public. Again, if this fails, seek advice from a magistrate or the police. Try to get your neighbours to act also. Jeezz good luck hey, I dont envy your situation

extend the fences to about ten feet or put some barbed wire on top of the fence. if the city has aproblem with that institute a dog ban petition that affects the dogs they own. in the country i'd shoot a feral dog on my property. if the city does'nt take action after proper proof sue them for collusion & conspiracy with the rico act that'll get their attention. if the animals on someone or attacking you cut it's throat it won't live long. a pit bull attacked my shepard that was on a leash & luckily i had a smithn wesson folder with me . the owner freaked when i did it but the city of memphis said it was us or it. a knife thats readily availible such as a smith & wesson or preferably a cold steel voyager or some such with a pocket clip will do very nicely. it can clip almost anywhere. tom

call animal controlimmediatly and report the neighborhood fears and concerns.these dogs should not only be fenced in but also be chained so they cannot get out of the fenced area.the ownre apparently does not care that if his dogs hurt or kill someone that he can be charged.also have your mail carrier start making complaints against him and his dogs.sometimes the weight if their complaints will get better results.if they want proof that the dogs bark all night go ahead and record them.you, your family and the neighbors cant function during the day on very little sleep
