In the Christian faith, one of the virtues is gentleness. How can we show gentleness in our lives and our walk with God? The same goes for peace. I'm not talking about what you expect out of others, but in your own life, how do you show gentleness and peace?

For those of other beliefs, what is your opinion about gentleness and peace and how would you exemplify it?

Philippians 4:4-6 (NIV)
4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

I strive for gentleness and peace, but sometimes I think my joking around may be missunderstood. When it is and I realize what I've done it crushes me that I may have offended the innocent. Buy the same token, I confess some people seem to bring out the worse in me, and I put them in their place, yet even then I strive for patients in my wording. To be gentle and peaceful is to project good intentions, love, and patients in all we do. We must be sensitive to the needs and feelings of others; however we also must strike a ballance and not allow people to walk on us or others and that takes art of phrase and a lot of grace. We must salt our words with wisdom.

I think there are many ways to show gentleness, and some are forgiveness of others, not judging others, sincerely caring for other peoples feelings, being slow to answer when upset with someone, analyzing what I am about to say when I might upset someone, and not being offensive, not being loud spoken, but soft spoken, not envying others, and minding my own business, and focusing on becoming more Christ like. I try to live this way as "gentle' as possible...It is an ongoing project! Still working on it!!!

gentleness is not having to quote or push your own religion on others, it's being comfortable in your own faith to not have to evangelize or 'spread the good news'

gentile ness is the character attributed to Gentiles who had no religion to fight over and were Peaceable, kind, tollerant and lived the Golden Rule while religious people quoted and talked about it

peace is simply balance, no need to fight, no cause to fight, you have what you need not what you want

peace also comes from the balance of spirit, soul, body, mind, heart, your whole being and whatever you want to call if you desire, 'god'

Islam is a way of submission and humble servitude, following the Koran that "Lords" over it's followers

rejoicing in a Lord is to be servient and being glad to be in chains to a law that goes against your free will

peace is not being brainwashed and you have no more will but to follow a hole ly scripture that focusses sole ly on your obedience and attempts to rule other's will and make converts

exemplifying can be seen using your own text, not as authority but as example - blessed are the peacemakers

usually peacemakers are not weak but stronger than the warmakers and must be wise, educated and willing to sacrifice with the vision to see no more quarrelling

one way to show peace is not proselytizing to others and causing unrest in others or telling them they are wrong for not sharing your beliefs or path to spirituality

the lord is always near, but as a former slave who earned my own salvation and freedom I do not acknowledge the front people use as 'god' and come under thier manipulation and tricks while saying "peace and gentlenss" but really dominating and ruling others

I love my freedom and peace of mind, enough to exemplefy it and defend it with truth, life example and integrity vs blind faith and unwillingness to put my faith to a test against facts or reason. I embrace truth even if it goes against what I believe, that's how I evolve and progress, and help others to also change and live. If we do not adapt, we die

There are no gods. Peace in my life comes from an understanding of the world. I don't know everything about the world, but I know enough to understand, in general, how it works. I'm also content to admit those things I don't know about the world.

Some people don't seem as content. They like to make up stuff about the world when they lack answers. They don't know how the universe started, so they say "God did it". That's a made up answer, and it belies an underlying insecurity about the world.

To me, that's not real peace. Peace comes from accepting what you know and what you don't know, not making up stories to cover your ignorance.

Gentleness comes from having the same understanding about the people around you. When you realize that everybody around you has pretty much the same life as you, you are more willing to put yourself in their shoes and be gentler to them. Some like to comparmentalize people into small groups, such as the various religious groups. Again, that tends to belie an insecurity. It's more honest to treat people as they actually are, humans trying to live their lives. That honesty about the nature of people instills a compassion towards others as you include them in the larger group of humanity.

I show gentleness and peace by treating my fellow man the way I would want to be treated.

I obtain peace and calmness when I am lying in my husband's arms.

I've always been partial to the Jewish concept of Shalom, which gets translated "peace". But the word actually carries a broader connotation which might be better translated "Wholeness". For whatever reason that word "wholeness" seems to contain a lot of meaning for me.

Peace,
Pabs

I help as many people as I can. I'm slow to anger, and quick to forgive. God has mellowed me out; Where I am very easy going. But I get riled up when someone starts making fun of the things of the Bible and Jesus.

try to be tolerant of others who have a different view of life and allow them the same respect as we ask for ourselves. try to realize all life is precious yet be willing to fight intolerance and bigotry not only in our own lives but elsewhere by trying to remove the log in our own eye before trying to remove the splinter in anther's eye
