I have a question for all the users that are so horrible to people who have problems with their spelling.
You always use the argument that there is a spell checker so why don't people use it?
Well, may I draw your attention to the fact that the spell check only works on the Title box of the questions page and not in the Details box.
Many of you say that you are only pointing out the spelling mistakes in order to help that person improve their English. You you say you accept that some people cannot spell but why can't they use the B.Spell check.
I say it doesn't matter if they use Spell Check, because the computor automatically changes the word for you so you are not actually learning how to spell it properly, you just 'appear' to be able to.
So I want you all to answer honestly.....
do you want people to spell properly for their own sakes....
or just because it annoys you and you don't really give a damn if they can't spell as long as they don't do it around you

hodeidah1.. you obviously have little to occupy your own mind as you seem to have plenty of time to abuse people. How constructive.

People always tell me off for spelling..
Ironically I am a professional writer and am pretty good at spelling, just can't be bothered to type properly.
I have found that if you put a deliberate spelling mistake into the title of the question, I will get 10-20 more people answer it just to tell me my spelling is wrong...try it and you will see!

The internet and mobile telephones are getting blamed for the desecration of the English language, therefore for those who cannot spell, being instructed in the correct use of the language should be looked on as constructive criticism.
I for one, know how to spell, I STILL use the spell check facility to ensure that my typing is correct.
I try to suggest a correct spelling for some words, as it is possible that the word that has been used has a different meaning to the one that is meant. If anyone has been offended by this I hope that they accept my apologies and understand that my criticism was meant in a helpful and constructive manner.
The Spell checker does NOT automatically correct the spelling, but suggests a spelling that the user accepts or rejects. The Yahoo! spell checker is woefully inadequate as it suggests words with spaces in and only offers American spelling and not the English spelling.
I do want people to spell properly for their own sake, were this a world where spelling was correct we would better understand each other and there is too much misunderstanding in the world today!

You can set your computer to change words for you and you can set it to, for example, change the first two letters typed incorrectly with a capital - there are so many different ways a computer helps with spelling and grammar and so many different settings. You mention that the spell checker only works on the Title Box and not the Details Box - have to say I've used the spell checker myself in the details - never had a problem with that. I think bad grammar and bad spelling does annoy the older generation - but agree that the younger generation today don't see it as such a problem as they communicate mostly through text, MSM and the like and abbreviations are used more than correct English.

I don't wish to sound old fashioned, but at school we were taught to spell properly in English. When my youngest brother went to school he was originally taught to spell phonetically, and he has never been able to spell properly.
Sometimes not being able to spell properly can affect you in your business dealings, if you are unable to complete an application form or have a messy CV, then employers may look less favourably on you.
Some people just have the knack of being able to spell, others don't but people should not be ridiculed if they can't spell.

you could, of course, write the details in a word document, then spell check it, and then copy and paste it into the details section. Job done. The computer does NOT alter it, it asks if you want to change it for the word it suggests, or it offers several words you could change it to. You are the one who decides whether to alter it or not. I realise it would say wether, whether and weather were all correct English words and pass them. All sound exactly the same but have totally different meanings. ( for those who don't know, wether is a term for a male sheep)

Spelling is about attention to detail, not spell checkers
(though it could be said that configuring your spell checker appropriately is about attention to detail).
Spelling mistakes in a CV (sorry, I'm English, we don't do resumés) haven't stopped me from interviewing people, but they do cause me to mark them down.
What's most depressing is that there are so few CVs without mistakes on them, and so few people with a decent grasp of how to spell.
having said that you can download a good free spell checker at
Http://iespell.com
that you can use on any part of a web page
checking your spelling consistently does lead to better spelling

I see where you are coming from however, this is difficult question to answer if you are Dyslexic? I feel words that are spelt as they are seen incorrectly are beneficial to some people even if it isn`t the Queen`s English. e.g. Inglish as opposed to English.

haha, good question, doesn't bother me, think most of the time people are just typing fast, so therefore don't bother about spelling or punctuation, as long as we understand what is being said, i guess that is enough!!
