Call him and get to know him as a friend, people fall in love too quickly and don't give a friendship a go first.
Be up front with him and if he is not serious leave him alone and find a real man.
You do need alot of communication and hard work in any sort of relationship and if your the one always trying FORGET IT takes two to tango its a waste of your time and who needs to be humiliated.
Lifes too short to muck around.
