It stops for refuelling, make the most of it to get a good walk in, travelling all that way is not good for the legs, so walk as much as you can. the three hours will go very quickly anyway. If you can, get a place booked in one of the rest lounges, you can then have a shower and get refreshed totally! i had a 3 hour stopover when i flew to OZ, but the other way round, I went via LAX, used the airport lounge, by the time I'd showered, bought some duty free and had a coffee, was time to fly again

Unfortunately not, I live in Dubai and the airport is a long way from town. The Duty Free shopping is good and you'd be better off buying cigarettes in Dubai than wherever you coming from (approx. 7 quid for 200).

Other than that there are a few shops and you can stare out the window at the hot (it's 42 degrees at 85% humidity today) desert with planes in it.

Oh yes!. Dubai airport has "Wampum" ways of parting you with your money and of course there is always" Spot The Celebrity Passing Though" to take you mind off the more mundane things like the seats! They are designed to get you off your backside and into the Duty Free shops!
Have fun.
