The process to peace must start with honest intentions and an ability to recognize ego problems. Almost all conflicts, big or small, can be resolved peacefully as long as the participants are prepared to indulge in some amount of give and take. The first thing when trying to work out a compromise is that both sides should try to visualise the other person's point of view keeping in mind that everybody has some reason or justification for their particular stand. There is rarely any issue which is black and white, all the various arguments are shades of grey......
Another big stumbling block is the presence of mediators and negotiators. This may seem like a contradiction in terms but some people actually take pleasure in extending conflicts to try make as much capital or grind a hidden axe. There is a fable which goes that two monkeys stole an eatable but could not agree on how to divide it, so they ask a cat to help which promptly divides it into two UNEQUAL halves and pretending to make them equal proceeds to eat all of it. .................
