If you try and try and nothing works out no matter what you do, and you have an unbelievable stroke of bad luck, what do you do?Do you compromise, or do you keep trying?

I think a lot of people relate to your question.
Perhaps an evaluation of your expectations is something to consider. You are probablly better at things than you are giving yourself credit for--but it's easier to notice what doesn't work, rather than what does work.
I have three teens, I have to compromise all the time, and then look at whether my focus is on what works, versus what I wish things were.
Find what is going right. It's there. Like this question---you have a lot of people thinking about an important subject. Well done!

This is life at some point for everyone. Some give up, and end up with nothing.. Most keep on trying and are better people for it.
Eventually we learn how to make things better and not count on luck, and our lives become better. But nobody has the "perfect" life, but are happy with what they have and live a good, long, love filled life;-)
We constantly are learning and growing throughout our entire lives, and there will always be obstacles even when your old and think you have had enough, we keep learning and growing.

Chances and circumstance will not always go against you.
So just move on and put the past behind you.
