Hi The Guy, its interesting what you say - i don't like the fake smiles either. Who makes the segregation though its not just the English is it? and also the National pride thing - the flag wavers only come out when the footballs on and when the Queen has a birthday, most of our culture has disapeared, so I don't see much of it about. Other countries have far more pride than us. eg. the Irish

Depends on whom you ask, Americans will have a different view from French.
I'm German Irish and most English people I know personally are nice enough, but as a country or in crowds abroad I don't like them, they are just as bad as the Germans, they expect the rest of the world to accomodate them, even if they come as foreigners, they expect everybody to speak their language, provide the food they are accustomed to, etc.

As an American, I think the English are kind of neat. Very well mannered, polite, refined. Makes you wonder how the most formal nation on earth could produce all that cool music over the last 40 years. English ladies are classy, and to be admired.

I like the music, the Beatles, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, the Police, and all that old stuff. As far as motion pictures go, not interested, the English like most people are seen in a more favorable light when they are put in American pictures.

Oh, Hugh Grant annoys, Elizabeth Hurley arouses. Don't think British comedy is funny. Its kind of like American country music, theres like one or two things I find appealing, but thats it. John Cleese is very very funny, but who else ya got?

Well, I'm from Wales and from what I've heard from my Gran was that in her time (early 1900's) English speaking was not that common until the coal industry really opened up. Then the English and the Irish moved to Wales for the coal. It was at that time that they began setting up English only schools and forced the locals to wear labels saying WELSH as well as forcing them to speak English and stopping Welsh.

This seems to be the resentment that we have with the English. It doesn't bother me but my gran remembers what happened very well and used to say is wasn't a happy time to live in Wales (if you were a local).

English identity and pride is rising, for years we had politicians bashing anything English but the times are changing.

i) Anglophobia. Within the intelligentsia, a derisive and mildly hostile attitude towards Britain is more or less compulsory, but it is an unfaked emotion in many cases. George Orwell.

I hate the fake smiles
I don't hate it but think it's a disadvantage to society if u look at colour and ignore quality (I'm black) P.S segregation is rampant among blacks, asian and whites alike.
I like ur national pride
I like ur confidence in your Britishness (now that the world is one global village, let it be more about brains than nationality).
I hate you when you complain about every leader in power - do you want a leaderless country? Y complain about Tony and then vote him back to power?
