you don't mention if it is a "race" asin running or a type of person
Most children cannot wait to "grow up" and are greatly influenced by their peer groups into acting out what appears to be "cool"
Children should be given a responsible role model in their parents and guided and advised by them accordingly.
If the "race" is as in a tribe then I can probably liken them to a very primitive tribe not far short of cannibalism!

Childhood is about making a strong foundation.
Foundation for health, attitude, intelligence, and self concept. What we learn in childhood decides, how we use our adoloscent and young adult years, which in turn decide what we become in life.

A race ... to where??
My aim ... is to stop the kids growing up too quickly - let them enjoy their childhood.
You wont stop them growing up ... make sure they enjoy it!

it shouldn't be, but unfortuntely parents begin the comparisons of their offsprings' development , and soon the child learns that to keep them smiling he or she has to be better and quicker then others.
