Because they want to exert thier "macho" image and belittle you. They cant feel "superior" unless they are degrading some one else, so, when you "take cover" as a normal person would if bullets were flying or something else is coming your way, (its only common sense), they will stand up and get hit, and fall over dead!
Being "macho" all the time is a silly concept, as we men tend to do to impress our superiority and dominance over everything in the land.
A good Soldier would "duck", if he thought he was getting shot at, so, why shouldnt you?
Let the other guy get "hit", and fall dead, then say.. "I told you to duck!"
