Most of us would agree that the average American and the average Aussie/Brit see the world in different ways.
This is not in any way intended to suggest that one way is better than the other, just different. For example, Aussies/Brits are more likely to be self-deprecating, more fond of irony, and tend to enjoy irreverent jokes.
Why do you think this is?

I don't know. I'm an American that has always appreciated British comedy. Monty Python, Bennie Hill, Eddie Izzard, Are You Being Served? Eddie has said that he doesn't believe that there is a difference and that people seem to enjoy the same jokes on both sides of the pond.

I am an Aussie so my answer here is a bit dodgy.
I should firstly say I do not think poorly of yanks!
But most Americans take life too seriously, and are too competitive. If you are ultra competiive it washes over into all your thinking, hence to take the "mickey " out of yourself would make you a loser! So humour wouldnt be aimed at yourself as laughing at yourself makes you look foolish and we all know that Americans dont like to look foolish. But Aussies and Brits, well we are all dills and idiots, we know that. So I can call my mates and myself a moron and no one is hurt. This is why some one could yell at an Aussie your a dickhe-d an he would yell back "I know mate but your a bigger dickhe-d" both would laugh and go on our way. In the US culture some dill would take offense and lord know what would happen next.
I think this deep down is why we act different.
US= ultra competitive NEED to win and look good.
Brits/Aussie= competitive and get a laugh out of winning and knocking off the big guys. also we never grew up.

It's probably in what they eat - Americans like their steak; the British love their fish and chips; and the Aussies love their vegemite. Different regions, different folks. See?

dont really know but it is true - the british do have the best sense of homour - Americans like the more obvious jokes where we like the suttleness of a straight faced one liner or sarcasm.
