Many cosmetic advertisements use an image of beauty that is

usually very far from what ordinary people look like or can ever

hope to look. For example, there are so many advertisements of

whitening soap and lotions that send the message that to be dark-

or brown-skinned is an unattractive trait. What is your opinion on

this? Do you think the cosmetic industry has a responsibility to

promote more realistic body images? Can you please elaborate

on your answer? ThankS a LoT....

The cosmetic companies have not nor will they ever, portray realistic body images. However, with regards to whitening soaps and lotions, I have never seen any of them. I have seen lots of lotions to darken the skin to obtain a tan all year long.

I've never seen whitening soap and that stuff, only tan lotions etc which makes me (being really fair skinned) feel like I have to get a tan and age my skin to fit in with popular ideas of beauty. Cosmetics are used to make u look better, so would u use cosmetics if the model in the ad looked less than perfect? I don't think so

okay, the whole cosmetic industry thing .... it's never going to change as long as WE keep buying what they are selling & we will... it's not like women are all of a sudden going to stop using cosmetics in a boycott or something.

I have never in my 40 years seen an *** for a whitening soap or lotion. UNLESS it's perhaps fade creams you are talking about? if so, I never took that as trying to convince people with non caucasion skin they are not beautiful. Fade creams (in my mind) are to help people who have age spots & scars to fade them....
the only other "whitener" I've seen is tooth whitener.

The images of beauty are distorted .... but I am seeing more & more "real" size people FINALLY...in the media. Hey, even yahoo has added some more realistic oufits etc. for those of us who are not super skinny lol

Most important are the things we absorb into our minds & believe to be true & we do NOT have to buy into the media crap & should all tell our daughters that they are beautiful, no matter if they match stereotypes or not :-)

The cosmetic industry uses people who do not look like you and me. Their basic premise is that if you use their product you can look like the model. When this does not happen we go out and buy more beauty products and services. We tend to give these people way to much control over our lives. Women need to take back their bodies and tell cosmetic companies and plastic surgeons to go take a hike. You are beautiful for who you are on the inside not what the package looks like on the outside.

actually, i think the same way as you do.

the cosmetic industry made us think that beauty is being fair-skinned, tall, having a good figure, having a zit-free face, etc.,

they have made women, for example, look ugly, and incompetitive, thus making us feel insecure and forcing us to buy lots of cosmetic products.

little do we know but as we continue to feel insecure about ourselves, we spend hundreds and thousands of bucks...and soon after, we find ourselves destroying our natural beauty and making us worse than before...

i really believe that the cosmetic industry must put more realistic images and not just pure fantasy...

Cosmetic companies use any sort of adverstise to get 'anyone' to buy their products.

You just have to either chose whether you want to try it or not. Every product is different and every face is different, so results may vary from cusumer to cusumer! So, you need to make a decision to chose what best fits with you.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

i am absolutely with you because they show the pictures of beauties;using some kind of computer animation to make their skin look smooth and soft and the problem with this is that it fools a lot of girls especially 11 to 15 years old who think that those products can make their skin really smooth and can get rid of pimples but they wont show the real truth because it would be a loss for their company..at least that is what they think.

before using the cosmetics you must check the chemical composition of that product and then look at the internet about that chemical.

well, its more like the media~ but its funny because they sell bronzers and tanners saying light skin is unhealthy, basically alll they are trying to do is sell products.

Fair can be beautiful.
But I like girls who are somewhat dark(not too much), like colour of earth.
