As a mother in law I can tell you the one most important thing of all, treat my son right. As long as you are good to him, I am good with you. And I don't mean blind allegiance, I have taken my daughter in laws side several times in disputes. My son is not perfect, and I don't expect my daughter in law to be either.
I wanted to add, now that I have a granddaughter and another on the way, to also make sure the children are well loved and cared for. I don't care if your house is messy, its hard to work, raise kids and tend to the home. I don't care if you help me, I have more time than you do. And for God's sake, don't try to be a butt kisser, that just makes me mad. If you're not doing anything wrong, then don't brown nose me.

Be faithful to your spouse.. Keep the kids happy. Be a responsible spouse. Be financially secured. Love your mom-in-law because love begets love.

You can't. They are impossible to please, trust me, unless they already just love you to death.
You can try and try and try and always fail, no matter HOW good you are.
If she does like you, but doesn't worship the ground you walk on, but be polite and smile a lot around her, feed her boy well and make sure he's obviously happy and satisfied,
raise her grandchildren to be respectable and DEFINETLY very talented,
offer to cook for her, clean for her, surprise her with treats and food, etc.,
And kiss her butt with compliments that you don't even mean!
