What I found very helpful and insightful was a book called 'Neuro-Linguistic Programming for Dummies'. It was really good.

NPL may be a good book to read but it's useless if you don't have the right people skills to begin with. You need to ascertain what aspect of your personality isn't working right now and then choose the appropriate book to read. However, it is best to see a professional first who can guide you in the right direction. It will cost you but it's worth it. Look for the appropriate kind of psychologist.
