either ur blessed with good genes or ur not... i think expensive products only contain chemicals that conceal the interanl flaws in ur skin but eventually they stop working and ur back to square one. its always better to consult a dermatologist and target the root cause of the problem.
did u know that our skin is made up of 3 main and 5 sub layers i.e 8 layers totally. even when u massage any cream thoroughly into ur skin it wont penetrate beyond the dermis (the outermost layer) thus it is always better to treat skin problem's internally.
changes in life style, hygiene and diet are more effective then expensive creams. for superficial skin flawas herbal products or off the shlf kitchen products are just as effective and less harmful to the skin and definitely pocket friendly ! :)

I normally would say that they were a complete waste of time and money. But recently i've started using an expensive skin product on my face as i have very sensitive skin and my skin has never been so perfect. I think it differs with everyone and your skin type. I wouldn't turn back to cheap products now or change the make.

I think they are a waste of money. You can get products for much less that are just as good for your skin. I have tried a few different products lately for dry skin, both expensive & cheap and found that just plain soap and water was the best and then and ordinary cream to moisturize. My sink is looking better than it has with a long time. I also think that drink a lot of water helps and costs nothing.

Not only waste of money but can be bad for you! You could actually develop allergies to one or some of the many ingredients that are nothing but synthetic chemicals as somebody earlier pointed out pseudo-ingredients like the micro-hydrosphere and the likes (made me laugh, especially the unobtainum). Best is to use natural products like aromatherapy oils. Many cosmetics, foods, dyes, anti-bacterial products contain some (very small) quantities of essential oils. But you don't need those fancy, gimmicky things, so just invest in some good, cheap products that will do the job. Skin masks that you can make yourself with ingredients available at home are very good too.

I used to work for an expensive cosmetic company and I can tell you that the most important things for healthy skin are cleanliness and hydration. Any products that do that are good enough!! Soap and water, not a myth!!

I think it depends on the individual. You need to find something that suits your skin. I have 2 favourites, Nivea visage soft cream or Superdrug own brand Vitamin E. At the end of the day, the best thing for your skin is a healthy diet and oodles of sleep!

Considering the massive upsurge in psuedo-scientific ingredients - hydro-biospheres, collagen-peptoliposomes, unobtainium - and the " au naturale " models and celebrities appearing in these ads do you really need to ask ?
What I don't understand is why aren't the consumer watchdogs and advertising commissions battering these companies for what is essentially false advertising ? Buy our skin cream and look like this woman ! - more like buy our skin cream then buy our brand make-up and then hire a professional make-up artist and you might bear a passing resemblance to our model ... if it's slightly dark ... and you squint

I think some of your previous answers nailed it - good hygiene, good hydration and healthy living

It depends on how much you want to improve the condition of your skin. I believe soap is fine on the body but the face deserves something a bit better personally, but you dont need to get the most expensive one. AVON do cheap ones that are very effective!

I'm not one to buy "expensive" products but I have seen one that works. My Dads fiance' got him some La Prarie (sp?) face/fade cream that he used for about 18 mos. & WOW!!! the age/sun spots he had covering his forehead & side of his face are GONE! Now, I'm not saying a less expensive product would NOT have worked....but this one sure did work.
As for me - I'm sticking w/ kiss my face & olay products because they work for me. Each person has to find the right combo of skincare for their own skin & routine.
