Has successfully had the operation and conceived?
I was sterilised 17 years ago after having my kids and have since divorced my ex and met a wonderful man and we would have loved to have had a child of our own

The success of the procedure depends on the your age, the length of the remaining tube and the location of the sterilisation on the tubes.
The main problem with tubal reanastomosis (tubal ligation reversal) is scar tissue around the reattached area, which can cause obstruction.

If you're considering it then you need to look for a specialist who does this operation on a very regular basis (like every week).

Statistically the results are better if you're under 35 but are not so good if you're over 40 years of age. Also the longer you leave it the worse the success rates can be. These following percentages are for couples with no other fertility problems when a reversal was carried out within a year of the actual tubal ligation...
Sterilisation with a clip or bands - 80% pregnancy rate.
Sterlisationstion done with a section cut out -about 50-70%.
If the tubes were burned - 40-60%.

My opinion is that IVF could be a good option, mainly because you won't have to go through any operation/surgery, and the conception success rate could be better than if you had a reversal.

If you're in the states comparing both options the cost is probably about the same and the coverage with insurance is probably very similar too.

This is only my experience of helping other women in the same position as you, I am not qualified to give you a diagnosis, that can only be done by a health professional.

Wishing you lots and lots of luck :o)

I know of one friend who has been successful and a couple who haven't.
The fallopian tubes in a female are extremely delicate and any scarring as the result of a reversal operation can reduce the chances of a successful outcome. Additionally, the scarring can lead to increased risk of ectopic pregnancy.

There is no reason why you shouldn't consider IVF.
Speak to your GP for a referral to a gynaecologist.
