I have IBS and immediately after eating I'm either sick or I have diarrhoea, so its easier for me not to eat whilst I'm at work to prevent me from spending loads of time in the toilet.

Does IBS cause weight loss or weight gain? and what foods should I avoid, I have also had my gall bladder removed can this effect my bowel movements too and make my IBS worse?

IBS generally does not affect weight but depending on type of pattern can cause either weight loss ( more common) than gain. Do not avoid fibre which helps the health of your bowel - fruit and veg. Can try Fybogel drink. Avoid fatty food if gallbladder removed as you won't be able to digest fat as good and it will lead to bloating, fatty stool ( pale offensive smelling floats on water and sticky) and diarrhoea. Maybe this is your main problem. IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion, and it is sometimes better to have a colonoscopy if all these measures fail to rule out bowel disease like inflammatory bowel disease ( includes Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis), or Coeliac disease or other bowel disorders. Hope that helps - see GP if above dietary measures fail.

You have my sympathy. I have been dealing with IBS for just shy of 5 yrs now. Its gotten alot better but i still get the odd attack of either diarrhoea ad or sick and of course the pain is terrible. Funny thing is i always seem to have an episode after a period of travel especially long distance in a car. I used to get car sick too which i am wondering might be related. When the attacks initially struck i followed a strict diet of boiled vegetables , grilled fish (no batter) or chicken (no skin) and the occasional piece of pork and some rice. Added to this is gave up smoking , coffee (which i replace with peppermint tea which is amazing for IBS ) and anything else which is considered taboo for people on a diet to lose weight. I followed this diet for about 6 months and lost about 15 kgs. My IBS then seemed to be much more tolerable so i slowly began eating more and more normal foods until today where i eat most anything again. I still tend to get bloated and slight pain when i eat "bad" foods or drink beer but its more tolerable. I think the most important thing to take from this answer is that you cant cure it but you sure can learn to cope with it. Remeber the peppermint tea and if the pain gets real bad try buscopan IBS relief and then use Rehydrate to keep the bodies liquid levels up after being sick or having diarrhoea for a lenghty period of time.
Good Luck and Dont let it bug you too much you are not alone ;)

IBS can cause weight loss because the constant urge to go to the loo after eating. Go to your GP who can give you tablets you could also try Kolanticon Gel it helps stop the spasms IBS cause will also help to settle your stomach. It can be bought over the counter at the chemist. You should not avoid eating as this can make the problem worse. Foods to avoid are anything acidic including drinks, any foods that grow above ground, i.e.cabbage, cauli etc.and fatty spicey foods. Its a bland and boring diet that you need I'm afraid but, it does help. My husband has suffered it for years and its a case of trial and error as to what makes it better or worse

Have you been diagnosed properly for IBS, many doctors just guess and don't carry out proper test because the symptoms are so varied and its requires a lot of tests to diagnose. There are perscription drugs which help during bad bouts, don't rely on things like imodium. Not eating makes IBS symptoms worse as you probably end up eating a large meal. You should eat regular small meals...large meals cause havoc. I have found dairy and wheat to be the main culprits for me. However it depends my friend also has IBS and dairy has no effect. It's hit and miss unfortunately. Sounds random, but having a banana before any meal def eases my symptoms, peppermint tea also. But do goto the doctor

Try Enzymatic Therapy's Peppermint Plus. I personally know several people who have gotten great results with it. Also find a good probiotic product (go to vitasearch.com for info) and take it as directed. The reference given below is full of good advice and info too.
Good luck and God bless!

Always have vegetables on palm. Saute a big bag regarding frozen mixed vegetables in extra virgin olive oil and garlic. Add some red pepper or even turmeric for additional flavor and also separate into portion-sized containers for that fridge.

Give your protein extra low-calorie flavor by building a salsa or chutney rather than a gooey cream sauce.
